G1000/3000 Issues, please confirm

Featured Replies

Just want to make certain that what I'm experiencing is the same as everyone else, when it comes to the G1000/3000 units. I've noticed this in the Baron and Kingair so far.

- F/D command bar does not follow a gps plan (cdi on pfd is set to gps/fms)

- F/D command bar does not follow heading bug either

- F/D does seem to follow g/s for an entered gps approach.

- cannot remove first waypoint from an entered Rnav/WAAS approach

Question: does Activate leg work, if I want to skip first approach waypoint? I can't figure it out. I put blinking cursor on waypoint I wish to activate and then click "menu" and scroll to activate leg and click enter but nothing happens.

Alot is missing on all Garmins for them to function properly.

  • North up /Track up function
  • Map options
  • FLP functions buggy.

Just to name a few.

So yes...I now re-tested it and I am correct. The F/D bar in MSFS does not function correctly. It will provide vertical guidance without needing the a/p on, BUT, it will not provide horizontal guidance unless the a/p is on.

This is completely wrong. What this is saying basically is that the a/p has no need for the F/D...but in real life the a/p actually follows the F/D.

All navigational modes should work (HDG, NAV, APP, ALT) with having only the F/D on for visual guidance during manual flight and procedures (with a/p off). So, another vital system borked.

I'll add these to my list of G1000 problems, these are the ones I've already submitted:

-The ability to fully add/remove waypoints from a flight plan from the interface.
-The ability to go direct to any waypoint in the flight plan from the FPL screen - you should be able to scroll to any waypoint along the plan, hit the Direct To button and be able to activate direct to that waypoint and then have the flight plan continue to sequence the rest of the flight plan from that fix.
-The ability to add or change the arrival or approach procedure from the PROC menu and for that to correctly sequence into the flight plan, including the ability to load an approach, select the transition fix and then go direct to that fix and resume sequencing the approach.
-The ability to use the “Activate Vectors to Final” function in the PROC menu, which should then sequence correctly by removing all prior waypoints and navigating to an intercept prior to the FAF.
-When “Activate Approach” is selected from the PROC menu, it should not change the active leg of the FPL back to the first leg of the flight…
-The list of procedures needs to show the full name of the procedure. Right now, if there are three approaches to a runway that are all RNAV (for example, RNAV X 16, RNAV Y 16 and RNAV Z 16) they are all listed with the same name…there are three entries “RNAV 16” - with no way to tell which is which and they often have different fixes and transitions, so they’re not interchangeable. The full procedure name needs to be shown.
-The option to auto-tune an ILS frequency for ILS approaches, and the option to automatically activate VLOC are nice to haves, but I don’t mind manually making those changes.

I have successfully activated another leg in the flight plan, but not an approach procedure. Also, this function isn't the same as a direct to; rather it will try to intercept the course of the active leg, even if that takes you far out of the way. I will double check.

I sometimes wonder if they don't intentionally change the functionality from the real unit to avoid disclaimers. "Not for Real world use". Like the F1 or RXP Garmin units..

Wind vector on MFD is in contradiction to wind vector in PFD

Yeah, the FD seems ok vertically but not laterally.

You can tell its trying to do something when you toggle heading or nav mode (with Fd ON, AP OFF) and watch the FD move slightly by a degree or so. Seems like it doesn't want to go to the bank angle but it does try.

Is there currently a way to select the next waypoint?

Thankyou @cwburnett!  ILS approaches using g1000 / g3000 have been driving me nuts - now I have found your post I realise I am not doing anything wrong, but it is the "Activate Approach" bug that you have described.
