The GNS 530 is a Major Disappointment

Featured Replies

One of the biggest feature that I was looking forward to in FS20 was the VFR/VOR type of flying, ok so no planes have a stack, fine let's look at the GNS. The 13 year old default GNS530 from FSX and P3D works better than the one in FS20. VOR's don't show up in the main screen, even at my lonely home airport I could get the Approaches with vectors, nothing in FS20. In other sims I was able to do a ->Direct to and select approaches, not available or possible in FS20. It's the same idea in the G1000, most of the data is missing specially at smaller airports. The GNS in other sims and 3rd parties have been out for at least 5 years, am I the only one that is disappointed in this.

This will be fixed when navdata will be updated to date either via  MSFS or Navigraph. It's not really per se GNS problem, it's little card that you plugin into the unit! 😉

Disagree that this is just a nav data issue. So many basic capabilities are missing from this unit. The oddities with the direct function has already been noted. Add to the list the Nav1 data block with ID, radial, and DME distance are missing and no OBS function.

For the power user that needs a full Garmin trainer, I agree. For a basic GNS or even G1000, I hope Asobo can come through with most of what even a advanced simmer might need. Especially the GNS really aren’t that complicated. The default planes are really quite good. They just need a little help in the avionics department. Clean up the avionics in the C172, and honestly, I’d personally have a hard time justifying the A2A 172.

100% agree atm it's poop 😞

will say that even though the GPS has issues atm the in game map / flight planning feels ok , some neat features in it

Yes I agree, but in context of missing approach is nav data problem

Plus the user interface is very lacking.  Not talking about the Garmin interface in the gauge.  Talking instead about how difficult it is to tune with the tuning knobs.  I  highly prefer to tune knobs from the left seat perspective.  I have taken many rides right seat in GNS equipped aircraft and have been granted delegation of GNS duties.  Using close up camera views in this sim currently requires taking eyes off of the perspectives in flying and to me is unsettling.  As bad as closing  your eyes for anywhere between 10 to 20 seconds and as long as two minutes.  Not realistic to actual flying.  In the past I have relied on the Reality XP "Legacy" mouse tuners which give great visual confirmation as tuning is accomplished.  Easily done from either seat.

I was in Alaska  doing a simple go-to PANC  about 60 miles away, at 12,000 feet agl .  In the TPM it was TIME TO verify the runway altitude so i could begin my descent.  I checked  the info on the destination in MFG (sp). It gives the LAT and LONG  and runway lengths.... BUT NOT THE RUNWAY ELEVATION !.

So I had to go look it up on Skyvector.  GEESH...  Hope this gets included in whatever NAV data MSFS ends up with.
