The major points are as follows:

1.  Use Newest Drivers

2.  Set Priority to Flightsim.exe to high in Task Manager.

3.  Turn on Game Mode

4.  Limit LOD (both Terrain and Object) sliders to 100 or less.

5.  Limit Texture Supersampling to 4x4 or less

6.  Limit Shadow maps to 768 or less

7.  Use TAA (performance hit is worth the better AA)

8.  Water Waves to Medium

9  Depth of Field Medium or High

Set to No fps Limits in sim or via NCP, sim can show available fps.

1. Already done:

Note that on some Nvidia systems 452.06 can mean having to reboot PC after one session on MSFS (MSFS can't restart). No problems with 451.67

2. Priority made no difference.

3. Game mode already on.

4..9 Settings inside sim alter available fps as expected.

I am fairly happy with performance out of the box anyway (8086 and 1080Ti), as I can hold 30 frames virtually anywhere, but I have found trying most of these tweaks when you are already in a good position seem to make no difference whatsoever.

I downloaded process lasso, but mine was already set as advised for some reason and I didn't have to change anything.

After three weeks of testing and messing around with tweaks and settings, the best I can say is don't have scaling above 150% when on 2560 x 1440, and turn any texture quality settings down.

I think clouds look best on 'High' as well; the 'Ultimate' setting makes them look too lumpy or granular in my opinion.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Surprised. Why is this thread still alive? Was there any good advice in the op afterall?

This would depend on your own definition of 'good advice', but one I seldom see around which might help:
