Transfer installed MS2020 to a new SSD

Recommended Posts

From a reddit post, Haven't tried it but looks straight forward:

I realise I'm a bit late to the party here but I just wanted to clarify how to move the game from one disk to another (this is for the windows store version):

  1. Go to add/remove programs, find the game and click 'move', then pick the disk you want to use. This will move the base installation ONLY at this point.

  2. Copy and paste your windowsstoregames folder from the old drive to the new location. When you're happy it's copied and you're sure you're ok to continue, delete the old folder and regain your free space.

  3. Launch the game. It'll ask you to specify a path to download the files for this 100gb additional content. Browse to your new path and specify the windowsstoregames folder. Click install, it'll check for existing files and within moments you'll be playing the game using your new installation path.

Hope this helps someone.

If you are going to keep the hdd, go to settings Apps, find the simulator click, you should have a move button - click. Not sure this works for steam install

With a Steam install, using the Steam move feature, it only moves the relatively small folder in the Steam library.  In Steam you can move the big MSFS Packages folder to its new desired location and then uninstall MSFS and reinstall it from within Steam.  When it gets to the point of asking where to install the packages, point it at the Packages folder in its new location, and it'll verify the files and run without needing to re-download all 100GB again.

Where exactly is the windowstoregame folder? I have 10 folders named Microsoft Windows Store in C\Program Files\Window Apps, but nothing labeled window store games.
