September 13, 20205 yr Hi all, I am trying to find this but so far I can't find it. During installation I installed MSFS in a custom location, however the community folder is still located under the C drive. I bought MSFS from the Windows store. I would like to find this setting during installation where I could set the community folder location and put it on my MSFS installation path instead of the C default path. Is it possible to do this or I have to reinstall MSFS? September 13, 20205 yr Moderator Are you sure it's on the C drive and not a symbolic link? I installed my MSFS on my F drive and the community folder is there also. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

Vic I also installed MSFS on my F drive, however there is no Community folder there. The Community folder is located at C:\Users\Ifikratis\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages However the folder "LocalCache" is showing as a link I guess a symbolic link. I can create symbolic links to this location however I'd like to have a more clean structure if possible. Especially when installers start to find the default location. I wouldn't like to manually then cut-paste files. September 13, 20205 yr Moderator If that is truly a 'symbolic link' then the Registry entries were made correctly and any installers should have no problem finding MSFS on your "F drive." Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Thank you for the reply. However when I install using an installer like ORBX, the sceneries are installed on the C drive in the directory I mentioned. So that is why I want to change this so the sceneries are installed on the same drive where MSFS is installed. Is there a way to do this? September 14, 20205 yr Moderator Orbx allows you to put the scenery where you want it and it just puts a symbolic link in the Community folder but you have to specify where. Create a library on another drive and point the installer to that. If you follow that local cache linik in your appdata I think you'll find it is pointing to your MSFS install location. All that's on the C drive is the link not the actual files. Be wary of playing around with existing symbolic links, it is very easy to mess them up enough that a complete reinstall is the only way to square it away. I installed the freeware ORBX airport and observed that the total available space was reduced from my C drive instead of F where MSFS is. Yes, I know about the symbolic links if I create a library elsewhere with ORBX, but not all developers will offer this library method I'm afraid. So, in the long term I'll have to manually cut/paste/create symbolic links if I don't want sceneries from using my C space. From your answers it seems there is no way to fix this other than uninstall-reinstall MSFS? That would be a huge time undertaking... Thank you all for your replies. If anyone has any idea I would be very grateful to know. September 14, 20205 yr Author So it seems nobody knows a way of how to do this.. Its annoying to say at least that Asobo didn't gave us an option to configure the install location of add-on products after install. It appears that it is on the C drive, but it is actually on my dedicated H drive. As best I can tell LocalCache is not a real folder but a "virtual folder". If I go up one level from Local Cache to the Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8weky.... entry and check Properties, it shows me only 500 kbytes. Edited September 14, 20205 yr by Bert Pieke Bert

Bert thank you so much for looking into it. This is so weird. Maybe my mistake. Yesterday I installed ORBX freeware for MSFS and I saw the C drive space becoming less. Today I emptied the Community folder and installed files there, and indeed it was the MSFS drive that showed to lose space. So seems you are absolutely right. It is a virtual folder and the actual space is consumed on where MSFS is installed. Good! Don't know why I got this contradicting result yesterday. Nevertheless it seems I don't have to do anything. Thank you Bert and thank you all for your time! : ) Simulators: Prepar3D v5.4 | X-Plane 12 | DCS World | MSFS 2024 | PC Hardware: Dell U3417W | AMD Ryzen 7 9800 X3D | ASUS TUF 5070 Ti | ASUS TUF B580 Plus Wifi | G.Skill Z5 Neo 64GB 3000Mhz CL30 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB + 970 EVO Plus 1TB + 860 EVO 2TB + 850 EVO 1TB, Western Digital Black Caviar Black 6TB | Corsair RM1000i | Corsair 280 Titan RX | VRM Fan | Fractal Design Define S2 Gunmetal | Flight Controls: Fulcrum One Yoke | Virpil VPC WarBRD Base | Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM Grip, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C Grip | VIER IM POTT Sidestick CPT Side | Thrustmaster TPR Rudder Pedals | Virtual Fly TQ6+Throttle Quadrant | Sismo B737 Max Gear Lever | Monsterteck Desk Mounts | WINWING EfisL+FCU+MCDU | My fleet catalog: Link
