October 1, 20205 yr Hello all, I have my MSFS2020 on its own 256gb drive, which, after downloading the newest update and all the freeware sceneries I have now only 32gb remaining disk space. I have just purchased a 1tb SSD specifically to replace that drive. Other than cloning my existing drive contents to my new 1TB drive, (community folder on drive C) what else do I have to do, in order to negate downloading the whole thing again. Will anything have to be backed up before the cloning? Regards Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. ASRock Taichi X570 CPU Ryzen 9 3900x (not yet overclocked). RAM 32gb Corsair Vengeance (2x16) 3200mhz. 1 x Gigabyte Aorus GTX1080ti Extreme and a 1200watt PSU. 1 x 1tb SSD 3 x 240BG SSD and 4 x 2TB HDD OS Win 10 Pro 64bit. Simulators ... FS2004/P3Dv4.5/Xplane.DCS/Aeroflyfs2...MSFS to come for sure.
October 1, 20205 yr Commercial Member Was asking myself the same question. If we get 10gigs every update, my poor 256SSD isnt gonna be enough for the annouced 10 years of support from Asobo :D. When i switch, i think im gonna go for the "redownload everything route", much longer i suppose, but probably less of a hassle and less prone to glitch, bug, corrupt files etc.
October 1, 20205 yr Author Leprechaunlive, My problem with that approach is that I have had no problems with my download until the last update and I have only just discovered some blank screens on some aircraft. I want to just verify if it is a local problem(mine) or others are having the same experience before I report it to ZenDesk. Given the problems suffered by some, I don't really want to duplicate those problems with a brand new download. If I have to go that route, then so be it, but it is something I wish to avoid if possible. Regards Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. October 1, 20205 yr I would clone it, and then switch drive letters so that the new SSD has the old drive letter. Your backup is the old SSD.. Bert

October 1, 20205 yr I think what Bert is trying to say is god help you if you do anything that makes MSFS think it has moved. I am not that brave to find out what might happen! 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
October 1, 20205 yr Author RobJC, It would be a long, problematic and preferably, a totally avoided alternative, but at least, if it all goes wrong, I can uninstall and reinstall. As you say, at the moment, it would take the nerve of a "man of steel" to modify or play around with anything out of the ordinary with this sim. I really believe that Bert has the right idea though. IF, however, he is wrong, I will be calling the cops, the IRS, the FBI and CIA, as well as all the Canadian alternatives to have him thoroughly investigated and chastised. My wrath knows no limits LOL By the way, my blank avionics screens (mentioned earlier) may well be down to not updating the G1000 mod. I will update later on this morning and report back.
