Let me build you a custom high end pc - for free!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So I've been a member of the flightsim community for 15+ years now, and have spent that time tweaking and building custom PC's predominantly geared towards running FS.  Infact, its my love of FS and aviation that got me into PC hardware in the first place, since our builds are some of the only ones out there aside from workstations that really really do benefit from top end hardware and overclocking, both on the cpu, ram, and gpu side.  I've been working on growing my youtube channel Hardware Lens, its focus is on reviewing PC hardware, testing games and flight simulators, and showcasing custom builds.   Ive been building custom pcs for the channel, overclocking and stability testing them and selling the pc's on ebay.  However selling these custom pc's to an ebay audience has resulted in a loss for me, or it sits there for sale until the hardware is outdated.  I would like to offer my services and build you a custom PC for only the cost of the parts and shipping (no labor) so that I can showcase the process on my youtube channel and help it grow.  I can do any type of build you want, RGB, custom watercooling loops, guaranteed stable overclocks, VR focused builds, etc.  I spend night and day researching and testing PC hardware, and I would be glad to put that knowledge to use for you, I can recommend a parts list depending on your budget and goals.   You can see some of my work on my youtube channel below, but its new so there isnt much on there yet.   If you would like to help me out and let me build you a pc just send me a message on here or at hardwarelens@gmail.com

The offer above is certainly interesting but I would say the GPU is on the limit of what a modern flightsim needs. The RTX 2070 Super is over a year old now and 8Gb VRAM can just about cut it in the demanding sims we have on the market today.

This is a good example of a PC with relatively decent specs sitting on the shelf in the Best Buy warehouse as the OP highlighted above.

The OPs offer to build custom PCs is a great offer for anyone wanting to have a latest spec PC made to their specific sim config.

I am anxiously awaiting the dust to settle on the Nvidia 3xxx series cards.  VRAM is becoming much more important and I suspect 8 GB of VRAM, even on a fast card like the RTX 3070.  For an additional $200 (MSRP) you get the RTX 3080 with 10 GB, but is that enough and is it worth the extra money?  Then there is the leaked list of future models which indicates 3070 and 3080 cards that may have more VRAM than the initial release cards.  In my estimation, this is not the best time to be selecting a video card for a new build.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

For an all out flightsim build I wouldn't settle for 10GB of vram, especially if you plan on using VR.  For gaming in general its fine, but not for FS.  There will be a 20GB version, and AMD's card out this month will have at least 16GB.

Yeah its a good price but I also wouldn't recommend anyone buy anything with an rtx2000 gpu now unless they absolutely couldn't wait a few weeks.  Only 1 TB of storage, only 16GB of ram, and who knows what kind of PSU they are using.  And glass over the front fans?  That case must absolutely suck for airflow, good luck trying to OC that 10900K or even run it at high stock turbo ratios. My offer is geared toward those looking for a true high end custom PC, not something off the shelf. I use the best PSU's, motherboards, cases, and can do full customization and water-cooling, and of course a guaranteed 100% stable SAFE overclock on the ram, cpu, and gpu if desired.  That's something you will never get from these prebuilts

The case has open slots all the way around it's outer edge on the front. Enough to not impede incoming air. The PSU is gold rated (read Q&A section for more specs) Some are shipped with the MSI Z490 and others an Asus motherboard. No reason to even overclock a 10900K you don't stand to gain anything negligible .it's also water-cooled.

I'm sorry but that's just simply not true, there is much to gain by overclocking.  I'll have a video out soon on my channel proving it.  Glass in front of the fans is awful for airflow even with vents, so it doesn't matter if it's water-cooled if the rads don't get good airflow.  Thats why you see more and more cases with mesh in front, check out gamers nexus's case reviews if you don't believe me.  And the psu being gold rated tells me absolutely nothing about it's build quality, voltage ripple, cross load performance or transient response.  I put A LOT of research into the psus I use for my builds.

The only thing I want between the case intake fan(s) and the outside world is a dust filter.  My old computer uses the Antec 900 case with two fans in the front.  I place used clothes dryer sheets over the intake mesh to act as a dust filter.  This case has good air flow and I think my next case will be Phanteks Enthoo Pro M SE.  Again, two big fans in the front and a dust filter, nothing else to restrict air flow.

Just not worth the effort. The liquid cooling performs just fine without additional airflow. For one whos looking at just plug in and go the system is more than worthy. If your looking at overclocking than custom is the way to go. But don't expect a lot of OC with the 10900K.

"The liquid cooling performs just fine without additional airflow. "

I don't think you understand how liquid coolers work.  They use airflow to cool the liquid, the liquid doesn't get cooled by just magic itself.

Whether or not its worth the effort is a matter of opinion.  I gained quite a few FPS from overclocking my 10900K in p3d.  With the amount of addons I run, every bit of performance is important to me.  But yeah, if you want a simple easy build and dont care about a few extra fps than that build will do ok.  I wouldn't be surprised if the price is so low because they are trying to unload their old RTX 2000 systems, and not to mention alot of people dont want intel these days.

Liquid coolers work in the same manner as a vehicle radiator with/out an auxiliary fan. Unless you completely cut the air intake off it won't be an issue.

Again, not true.  If this were true you wouldn't have airflow options cases providing better temps.

Many of those options are sold to make money. Rarely does one need them.
