what's a lazy simmer to do now?

Nobody is starting to talk about real flying in the sim at all. Don't worry about that. Nobody does, anyway.

Again, it about watching AI in a game, and for buying the game to do that.

That seems to be more exciting that watching webcams of actual flying.

I'm surprised this is so novel to everyone.

Even in MSFS its a lot of fun to just go into drone cam with your plane parked at Seatac or Heathrow and just watch the AI live traffic Logjam on the runways while other players are doing loops and barrel rolls overhead and crashing into the terminals. Just turn on multiplayer, live weather and live traffic and grab a six pack. Its great when you have a second screen and can do something productive at the same time. Obviously dont park on the runway in a 787 idle for 6 hours. I do it sometimes just to check server and setting stability, because in the past it was just asking for a crash.

If the copilot AI flying was better that would be nice, sometimes it does work and you can turn it on and just relax.

It seems quite novel in that the OP does no flying at all, only plane spotting.

My understanding is that AI Copilot (turned on with a single key binding) is a completely different function from the regular aircraft avionics autopilot (G1000, G3X, G3000, etc).

Since there is no manual included with the sim, it's tough to say what Asobo intends the capability of the AI Copilot to even be. Do they intend you to 'hand off' control to them for short periods within a flight that you are largely controlling yourself, to take a bio break or whatever?  Or is it supposed to be capable of flying an entire flight parking spot to parking spot?  It's not clear to me what the intended featureset is supposed to be.

The best thing to do might be to file some Zendesk tickets clearly describing what happens and what you think the intended behavior should be, and see what happens with that ticket.

I will say that the G1000/G3X/G3000 avionics autopilots have minimum airspeed requirements before you turn them on, are not capable of navigating on the ground, and are definitely not intended to be able to fly parking spot to parking spot. So if anything can do what you want, it will be that AI Copilot.

Thank you guys for your help. Some have been helpful and some have been what I was expecting. What I meant was don't be mad at me is because sometimes when someone says they don't fly in the simulator sometimes people say then why did you buy it. It's the same thing when you say that you play on a laptop and others say you wasted your money and should use a pc instead. You are almost shunned on because of the way you like to play.

When msfs first got released, of course I bought the premium deluxe version and I was so looking forward to realistic ai models and liveries populating busy detailed airports. But quite sadly I didn't get that but I also love following ai planes from gate to gate. I loaded up the sim picked a plane and a departure airport and arrival airport, I click on the ai control pilot button and was curious to see what would happen. I successfully followed a flight and I thought that this sim was going to be enjoyable if I can do that. But after the second and latest patch the ai plane no longer flies the route. It will take off but it won't even fly in the correct direction and will just fly in one direction for hours. If I open the atc window I can see the commands and communication but the plane doesn't respond to them.

Since I am not familiar with flying and controls, I am not sure what options I should set in the various instrument control, flying dynamics, flying realism and so forth. I am not sure if those controls correlate with the ai control or they are just used for manual flying. I don't understand why this feature doesn't work anymore because it was all good in the first release. Now without that feature and the terrible ai models and the lack of real time traffic I don't have anything to enjoy the sim the way I want to.

That's all I meant

In DCS find myself occasionally feeling too lazy to fly and will just park my F-18 or F-16 at the most popular airport on the "Aerobatics Server" and watch others do their thing.  In VR it's quite an immersive experience, and takes a bit of the sting out of not being able to attend airshows this year 😉
