  1. Got the mega pack of Reno planes - I like it, all of the planes have character. So one of my main ways of using MSFS is for long distance AP legs while im working on my other screen. This means I like using autopilot on almost everything. If you are curious there are some L39's that have functional Autopilot in the package. Blue Ice, Drop Bear and Red Thunder. I think this is kinda cool because its a small jet with familiar General aviation AP, which I believe is pretty uncommon in the type. The T-6s and the Pitts all have no autopilot. One P-51 has inop autopilot (Lady B), kinda disappointed in that, but its probably because it looks like a AP module thats never been in sim yet and I can imagine the old birds are generally not set up for it. Just in case anyone is looking to buy onesie twosies of the planes and AP matters to you.
  2. Hopefully the Carrier can be "deployed" anywhere in the world to fly to/from. That would really be something.
  3. I posted the notes on the official forums. I dont know how to upload here so heres the link. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/update-5-possibly-this-week-will-improve-water-reflections-night-lighting-autopilot-and-more/309159/58
  4. For me this seems to happen if I change anything in Radeon control panel - if I update drivers or any filters/shader settings. Next time I start it up it will reset to 100. I think msfs defaults it out when it detects any change in graphics settings coming from the driver. Plenty of times it will start up at 120 just as I want it to, but I check every time anyways.
  5. I used to run the image sharpening at 80%, but it seems to really make the jaggies "POP", since in my experience there is a lot of sharpening built into the game app rendering as it is. Tried turning that off and on, looked better with it off IMO. I actually want some blurriness, especially for distant objects because thats where the worst of my aliasing is.
  6. Check out Eleuthera in the Bahamas to get an idea of what water masking looks like in game on your computer, they do have it, just not much.
  7. I was about to say with all the pop-ins and melties they couldnt hide in the video yeah It looks exactly like what I see. Im hypersensitized to all the faults, its like im not even treating it like a game and it can never be good enough. In comparison the Europe video seemed amazing to me, the USA being so familiar I guess im too critical of it. Just further evidence of my stink eye since I went too deep 😛
  8. *Im sure they will SELL licenses to the engine to many different companies.
  9. I'm sure they will, and I hope that at some level it stays as an integrated platform instead of a half dozen spin off engines. The idea of being able to see your friends sailing around and land helicopters on moving boats and such will be way too cool to pass up.
  10. One thing I know is that Nvidia apparently has a soften filter you can turn on, I have AMD which has no thing as far as I know. That is one thing I definitely would try at higher resolution scaling.
  11. I hope it comes out on Orbx or the Marketplace, because I am getting a little scatterbrained with all the simmarket and individual download sites and I dont think I can keep up with the pace of manual updates of this kind of content. But definitely will buy, looks like it has a cool little panel and some extra goodies. Just going to wait for Marketplace probably.
  12. 1440p high/ultra 120% render scaling on a midrange card is about the best Ive been able to get with 35 fps average. I havent been able to get rid of my jaggies, but having watched other people's 1440p streams I think I just am oversensitized to them when jumping from 1080p ultra with render scaling 150 to 1440p. I think at the moment, 1440p with render scaling over 120% probably requires pretty high quality gear up there with entry 4k. 1440p which is 2560x1440 with render scaling 150% = 3840 x 2160 which just happens to be equivalent to 4k scaled down to a 1440p monitor. It just so happens that most of the recommended settings that ive seen for 4k in MSFS recommend .7 or .8 render scaling .7 being 2688 x 1512 which is just over 1440p native. None of this is exact, but the point is when people use render scaling down from 4k it probably looks better because it blurs it a bit so you dont see the jaggies and shimmering in the distance. When you scale up from 1440p it probably looks crisper but it just tends to highlight the distance aliasing, jaggies and texture problems. This is my theory and im probably wrong, but having compared with my own eyes in videos and gameplay this is my current theory.
  13. So, as silly as this might sound, having sailed more than ive flown... I can see if they completely overhauled the ocean rendering/ physics engine that they could make a really cool sailing simulator in this engine. Then they can link the two sims together so you get live boat traffic by real players (optionally). Maybe its just the way I play, I have the sim running on the second screen while im doing other things (CE, work, reading), with my plane in cruise on autopilot - I feel like this would also translate well with the live weather (when its better) onto a sailing simulator. I have sailaway but I havent tried it yet. In reality theyve already done 50%+ of the work. They just need a good water physics engine and marinas etc.
  14. I had to make the choice about a month ago to upgrade from my RX 580 4GB. I wasnt able to use my 1440p screen at all and had to run it on a separate 1080p screen at medium settings and even then I would only get 20-30 fps in places I fly (puget sound). I am kinda old school in that ive only ever had Radeon cards, so I went with the RX 5700 XT 8GB and I payed about 380 for it. I also only have a Ryzen 5 1600 so it would be a total waste to get a lot of the higher end cards without upgrading my CPU. I honestly havent had many problems with it. I play on high/ultra 1440p 120% scaling, I get pretty much a locked 30fps in Seatac in GA aircraft, might drop a little below on takeoff, but in the air im 35-50 FPS, and 40-50 FPS when flying over less built up areas. This is base settings with no overclock because I have been flying a lot and I multitask so I dont want to put the extra wear on my fans and listen to it like a jet engine. When I did OC it I def got about 7-10 extra FPS average but yeah it was loud and looked like it was running way hotter. I knew there were better cards out there coming along but I needed something quick and after researching the 5700 XT looked like an decent upgrade for me to get my setup to an acceptable configuration. I made it a point to get an 8GB card for obvious reasons. I think there might be some driver bugs, not CTD bugs but mesh freakouts and such every once in a while. Also the driver software doesnt seem to allow the same depth of configuration that the Nvidia software does. Only thing that seems like is something that is out of the ordinary other than the occasional bugged textures is that there are definitely some shimmering issues that seem to be from the sim that are apparent on payware airports, and at 1440p its way more noticeable than when I was playing on the 1080p monitor. Render scaling helps a lot but you cannot push it too much. Dunno, I def feel like I can play the sim to a level i'm happy with, even with plenty of payware, but now I have the flight sim fever and every jaggie and shimmer makes me want to get a 8K monitor on a NASA supercomputer.
  15. Now available through Orbx direct (so you can autoupdate). This thing is really fun! Somehow I get like 1.5X the FPS performance over other planes. Absolutely shocked. Gauges, everything is amazing. Flight director is even kind of fun to use. If one guy is capable of doing this with the current build, I bet we are absolutely in for a treat for future releases.
