Win 10 home to pro question

Featured Replies

I'm considering going from home to pro.  Looks like it is more of a feature unlock compared to a new OS.  Has anybody done this upgrade?  Obviously my main question is if it creates any weird flight sim issues with permissions/activations.  that kind of thing.

thanks in advance.

Interesting to know your reason why you would go to the Pro version?

For the majority of users, Windows 10 Home edition will suffice. If you use your PC strictly for gaming, there is no benefit to stepping up to Pro. The additional functionality of the Pro version is heavily focused on business and security, even for power users.

For gaming I think you should go with the leanest, simple solution. While the Pro offers more advanced options, all those comes at the expense of extra services running on the background, consuming precious memory and CPU that could be used by games.

In short, if you don't need any Pro features and want gaming, go Home.

it's just something i'm considering.  Kind of an interesting one.  But I'm having some network issues.  Teredo is sometimes being blocked and other times working.  So I think my MSFS scenery is not streaming properly.  Truth be told, it's not my primary sim.  If it becomes the primary we are still a year a way.  One of the troubleshooting steps involves settings in GPEDIT.MSC.  There is a work around since that's not available in home.  But the workaround is not working.  So part of me was considering going to pro where that is available.

I use Pro for the primary reason that it allows me to defer feature upgrades for up to a year, and quality updates for up to a month...long enough for a stinky update to get sniffed out by the Home version users and taken off the table.  My first Win 10 build was with Home, and several M$ updates installed themselves and borked my flight sim configuration.

& Ive got the Home edition, never an issue at all, & it's currently updated .I just somehow prefer an updated OS. Yes, some bad updates have been reported, BUT it's very, very much in the minority.

Just because windows “updates” something doesn’t meant it’s of value to a flight sim computer. Like said in previous post. Some updates can impede flight simming.

Not sure as to the point of the first part.. but anyway..updates, in any case, is of value to the OS...As I said, my sims run perfectly with a fully updated OS

Which updates can impede flight simming? So far, I have not found any.

I can think of numerous windows updates that have caused flight sim issues in the past.  I haven't had any the last year or so, but many in the past.  Things like sim will no longer start, sim CTD's, graphical issues.  I'm not sure how long you have been doing this hobby.  But anybody with say 20 years under their belt is certainly well aware of these.

Not a problem, I've been simming since the dos & 2x stiffy days, gone through all the OS's, 95, 98, XP, 7, 8, 8.1, I missed Vista, and obviously 10, both updating older OS's to 10,as well as new W10 installs. As well as installing all past and current sims on new and old PC's.

Maybe I've just been lucky that my comment stands, I've never had issues with any sim, with any update.

So, no, I'm not a newbie simmer.

Also been simming since W95 and Flight Unlimited days. Had problems, of course, but not any I could positively point to updates.

I've been simming since the very early days and have yet to have a problem with any sim which I could definitely connect with a Windows update. Some issues have coincidentally appeared to happen at the same time as updates, but I subsequently traced them to non-Windows software which was updated around the same time. I keep Windows up to date.
