Saitek Starter Switch Incorrect

Featured Replies

I recently installed the Logitech drivers for the Saitek panels and have been pleased to see they mostly work, although I haven't tried them with more than a couple of planes. The first issue I discovered was with the C152 starter switch. When I use the Saitek switch the virtual switch moves and jumps back again, when in reality it should stay put for a few seconds while the engine turns over and starts. It seems it makes a short turn of the engine and the switch then returns without staying long enough to start the engine. :blink: I hope I have explained this well enough :rolleyes: I suspect it is a known bug, but would be interested in seeing if others have found the same problem and if it can be rectified in any way. Cheers.

Yes Rock.  It is a known issue and was addressed by Robert Young in his G36 turbo mod for example.

You have to alter a couple of settings in the aircraft config file for the Saitek switch to behave.  A fairly simple fix I believe.

If you do a search you will find it.  It was talked about in the last week I think, and maybe towards the end of the G36 turbo thread.

I would find it for you but I have to dash now...

Edit. Now I am home I found it.  Lots of discussion on page 10 of the Bonanza Turbo V2 RELEASED thread, including a working solution. 👍

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I made the following change to my engine.cfg for the 152 mod:

Quote

normalized_starter_torque = 0.27
starter_time = 1.3

Ah, thanks fellas, that is really very much appreciated. I did do a search, but it seems my ability to come up with answers is perhaps less successful than others! :blush: Thanks again.

Yes, that's the trick, to increase the starter torque value and give the starter motor more time. Most stick/controller buttons are short one-shot switches. Whereas if you click and hold your left mouse over the virtual starter in the cockpit, the starter will keep turning for quite a while. I think it is more immersive not to have such an easy start, but most hardware buttons can't seem to do much more than on/off in the blink of an eye. I like to see sim piston engines struggling a bit rather than having a guaranteed start up.

Sometimes a mouse is better than a hardware switch. Personally I can't really see an advantage in having a starter switch that emulates another switch in the VC, but each to their own!

Hey Howard .-) ,

not want to hijack your thread but i am new to these panels ,

Do you use them for P3dv4 or 5 as well ? Which drivers do you use then ?

I am fiddling with SpadNext and not sure i want to spent that much time with profiles

Thanks Michael Moe

Hi Michael, I use in P3dv4.5 the VRI Boeing 2 MCP and Goflight switch panel, both are configured via FSUIPC and LINDA. I gave up trying to use SPAD with the Saitek radio and switch panels, I'm sure it was me, but the whole thing I found very unintuitive and rather flakey. I know others find it easy enough so I guess it must be my old age! :blush: But as for using the Saitek panels in MSFS, I simply installed the newly released drivers from Logitech, which I understand are for all the Saitek panels, and so far they seem to work. Although at this moment in time the landing gear handle on the Saitek switch panel is not functioning in the Craenado Mooney.

I will try Logitechs drivers in MSFS2020.

Guess i will just open up Spad.Next software in P3dv5

Thanks again Michael Moe

Yeah, the one I am struggling with for the Saitek Panel is the Iris Jabiru, the starter works fine but the other switches on the Saitek panel cause the item in question (landing lights or whatever) to flash briefly and then immediately go off again, I am not familiar enough with the configs to work that one out yet.

Landing gear handle on my Logitech Switch panel works fine for the Mooney with me. I am using the logitech drivers. The only problem I have with the switch panel is the fuel switch with the Mooney.

Hmmm, I will take another look later. Odd, I too have an issue with the fuel shutoff valve in the C152, no number of different assignments work.

This is exactly my experience.  Landing gear selector fine in the Mooney.  The fuel pump must be programmed differently by Carenado maybe.

The only problem I have with the panels is I lose the autopilot one after a few flights (or second time in to MSFS).  The screen goes blank, just on back-light.  I have to completely re-boot the PC to get it back so it must be a driver problem I think.  No major drama though.  Doesn't hurt to reboot once in a while.

That problem has been around for a long time and there's a fix. Here you go: http://uraster.com/en-us/products/usbenhancedpowermanagerdisabler.aspx

Thanks Phantoms! 👍  Superb.  I will try that when I get home from work tonight.
