This is a really good point. Especially considering so much of us have varying degrees of a home cockpit which do not always tolerate these updates

I reinstalled P3D due to issues with MSFS. If the 5.1 update was mandatory I'd be really annoyed that I can't use ActiveSky.

Well until the new hotfix and AS release I'll be using the freeware P3DWX 1.0.1. It can hold me over just like it did at 5.0 launch back in April.

I wait, usually a minimum of a couple of weeks, when a new P3D update hits the streets to let all the other add-ons I need catch up, and to see if there are any heinous issues that pop up in the first days after release.  FWIW, if you want a look at a really heinous release issue, check out the MSFS forums regarding the auto-installed and mandatory update #5 today.

LM has made it pretty simple to swap out the various P3D modules (client, content, scenery), so backtracking to an earlier version is as easy as upgrading if you need to go there.

Although apprently it 'feels like a brand new sim' and theres 'great new things on the horizon.'

We all asked for a sim to make Godzilla mods.  Over on their forum they seem quite please with their beta sim too. 

So why would LM bother to worry about us lot?

No.  

So long as people buy beta gash all the delevopers will release and sell beta gash. 

 

It's that simple, it's feels like a new sim remember...

Yep. I hastily deleted P3D right when MSFS came out. Now two months later, I'm getting tired of all the bugs and problems, so reinstalled P3D!

I still plan on using MSFS for VFR flying, but IFR is pretty much a joke right now. MSFS crashed on me mid-flight and I cannot restore the weather conditions I had pre-crash to my saved flight, no matter what I do. The user interface is the most poorly designed function I've ever seen in a game.

Sooo, back to P3D with my FSUIPC, auto save, and Activesky 😁

Mandatory updates work if you build a platform correctly. XP hasn't done it, P3D hasn't done it, MFS hasn't done it. Which of these platforms has the best chance of doing it? Who's to say...

the speed of the hotfix will highlight how dedicated LM are to the humble simmer, (as simbol mentioned when he met them at the conference) as its an easy fix according to Rob.

Im quite happy to eat my words. so be interesting to see how quick it comes out and what LM's "corporate line" is towards the issue.
