Pixelated textures behind the prop ?

Featured Replies

I am pretty sure its new with this patch as i didn't see it before. Any plane with nose prop making the the textures behind it super pixelated. Not blurry but pixelated.

I can bet its the new TAA

Most noticeable when the sun is at the tail hitting the prop from behind.

I've had pixelated textures behind the prop since day one. They have radically improved with the latest patch.

Play with your Render Scaling and AA to get a compromise of acceptable v frames but certainly, this isn't new.

I fixed/reduced this by editing the Alphachannel of the proptexture to make them more transparent in the sim. Generally i had the impression that props are too much visible at higher RPMs.

Hi, can you give a little more detail as to how you made the adjustment (file, edit line, value etc.)?

I am seeing a pixelated visor. I think on the Turbo Bonanza.

I can try at least. Please excuse that i am no pro in editing and such things.

I used DXTbmp to open the texture file and sent the Alphachannel to the Editor (GIMP in my case). There is an option in DXTbmp to do so.

In GIMP i edited the Alpha to be much darker so i added more shadows until the props were barely visible (The darker the more transparent it is in the sim).

After that you have to export it somewhere temporarily as (i think it is trans.bmp) and then import it into the original file using DXTbmp again. Save it (overwriting the of course backed up original file) and it SHOULD be showing much more transparent in the Sim.

So its basically no text editing but a little graphics edit. I am pretty sure there are much more talented editors here who can explain it better than me.

Hi,

I was able to open the "PIPISTREL_SW121_AIRFRAME_PROP_BLUR_COMP.PNG.DDS" file in DTXBMP and then export the Alpha channel in >Gimp, however I could not see a direct way to "add more shadows" to the image. If not too complicated, can you walk me through the steps / options (top menu bar, left mouse click etc.) that you used to add more shadows to the image?

@ThomseN_inc, for which airplane / airplanes, did you edit the file?

Could you please upload it?

Thank you very much, in advance

Try rightclick and you should find the option "Color" open it and you should be able to change the brightness, contrast or ad shadows to it using the offered tools. It was pretty much trial and error for me to find the setting i liked best.

I get this too on every ac prop shadow. Isn’t this reported as a problem w dx11 and the way the game handles shadows and AA?

IIRC the upcoming switch to dx12 was reported to fix this issue....

Hello to all,

I´ve reworked those propeller files because they are all to strong visible in my eyes.

I´ve also removed the sharp edges, most iritating for the XCub and Cap10c.

You´ve to copy the files directly in each aircraft texture folder (don´t forget to rename the original file !)

Some planes have one file some two files to change.
