November 3, 20205 yr I was stuck in a download loop in the second patch, same file over and over again (because it's not entirely downloaded so it restarts). Tried various things i could find, none of them worked. This did the trick: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/update-stuck-in-a-loop-1-8-2/273910/25 It then passed in one go. After the installation is done, change back to original settings. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. November 3, 20205 yr Running as admin worked for me which makes no sense. The more popular speed limiting fixes did not help me at all and I tried them all first... It's frustrating.
November 3, 20205 yr 7 hours ago, flyforever said: My top download speed is 20 mb/s, not fast by any means. To have such an important and large piece of software stuck without Microsoft or Asobo making it a top priority is suicidal. I simply don't understand it. I am currently on net limiter at 1 mb/s. I am jotting down the progress that the cryptic bar displays, because when it goes into a loop it's difficult to know without good record keeping. One of the things that avsim may want to consider is use its weight and influence to have direct access to Microsoft or Asobo for answers that require immediate attention. If it's true that Asobo scans and or listens to what Avsim users have to say, then it makes sense for an Avsim "spokesperson" to represent its users. Even FS Elite could take a bolder approach on critical issues such as the right to download without going crazy. I've never encountered a download bug such as this one. Disconnect your PC from the internet. Start MSFS which will load in offline mode Go into settings and set your download speed to unlimited. Reboot, with your PC connected to the internet. You should now be fine. November 3, 20205 yr I had to reduce internet connection speed to make it download without looping. Before doing that it tried over and over to download the same file. Once I reduced speed to max 10mHz per second, it never again stalled on any file but came straight down perfectly. For all the updates. For wifi (not ethernet) just browse to 192.168.1, or 192.168.0 depending on which brand of router you own and use login and password of lowercase: admin. Check the box to lock your desired max speed in the menu and don't forget to reset it to full speed after the update download finishes. edit: I discovered this trick over on another forum where somebody posted it and then several messages posted it worked for them. November 4, 20205 yr Author Thanks. Another puzzle is that I cannot interrupt the downloading to restart the pc. If I close the program while it's downloading and reboot the computer, Asobo forces me to do a complete "update"--as if all previous activity had never occurred. I am currently downloading at 2mb/s and I will check in a day or two from now to see if it made a difference. I simply cannot stand in front of it for another minute.
January 17, 20215 yr I have found a reason-solution to one of the problems: the infinite loop restarting package download happens when there is bandwidth limit in the MSFS settings, and the download speed exceeds that limit! I.E. when you have 20Mbps limit set in the SIM, and you exceed this download speed during the patch downloading on startup, it will reset. What is worse - MSFS2020 settings are stored somewhere unknown to me, probably some online profile. Because when I wasn't able to complete last patch, I did the worst I could - uninstalled, manually deleted all files from all locations and tried to reinstall. And guess what - still was happening. Because I've noticed that it cycles always when reaching 20Mbps, I've set NetLimiter to 19,5 Mbit limit, and it instantly went downloading OK. And when I've finished reinstalling the sim and started it the first time - dejavu > all my previous settings were there in the profile. Including the word not allowed bandwidth limit. So I've tested it again just to make sure - and yes, when bandwidth is set to no limit, downloading works all fine. If I don't want it to consume all my link, then I use netlimiter on flightsimulator.exe process.
