Space Shuttle Interest?

Featured Replies

How many of you are interested in Captain Sims rendition of the space shuttle? I was exciting to see such a in depth aspect of the shuttle experience finally being developed. I have been waiting for a sim other then orbiter for sometime. Captain Sim has decided to concentrate on the last 5 phases of the shuttle flight and skip the lauch sequence. Although they have stated that if there is renewed interest in this program then they will continue with the launch sequence and the shutle experience. So if your a space cowboy like me give them a hollar to show support. It would be sweet that not only could we have FSX as a new sim but also start the renewed interest in the space side of aviation.

I am going to wait until it gets some reviews before throwing my money on this one. Naturally, I have heard very eyebrow raising reviews on CS products... until I get feedback from the people who have more money than me I refuse to purchase the product. Judging from the excitement on this board, I don't think it will be long before we hear in depth feedback after its release.

I think the possibility of orbiting the earth in FSX is great, However, I don't see myself bying anything from Captian sim agaim. Too many unfinished products. I would like to see someone else make a shuttle or better yet, an X-15, Mercury or gemini rocket that can be flown off from the ground to space and back again. that wouls be fun. ANyone remenber Virgin's Shuttle? (1992 or 93). That was a fun simulation of the shuttle. I would live something like that for FSx, if its possible.Rob

I am interested for sure. Would be neat IF they do the launch seq, and you get to travel from ground to space in the sim. I hope they do a good job.

At this point its probably just a model, then you'll have to wait for the avionics, sound, flight dynamics, etc etc and purchase each one. Then, wait a year for a patch. After all that make a post here and complain about CaptainSim. Rinse and repeat.

I do remember Virgins shuttle. I spent hours on that.

If you are desperate for a space launch sim experience, there is also the standalone spaceflight simulator of the Mercury space programme 'A-OK! The Wings of Mercury' - which by all accounts simulates all the switches and buttons and lets you do a launch and landing.

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

This looks and sounds cool, but I have to wonder, how intersting would it be, really? I mean, the vast majority of the time the computers are doing the flying and the ground is feeding them the orbital elements (and good luck figuring out how to calculate those yourself!)Really, the only exciting parts IMO would be:1) Launch (mainly for the visuals... the computer does nearly all the flying on the launch, with the commander+pilot just punching in the software commands (OPS 99 PRO EXEC!)2) Docking with the ISS or Hubble3) Rentry4) Final approach.Still, I'd be interested in checking it out.--2002cbr600f4i

Anyone interested in a space flight simulator should check out Orbiter by Dr Martin Schweigerhttp://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/orbit.html

Ya but orbiter takes it way to far. You definetly could not jump in there and take off. And someone said something about ya but its boring I mean the computers do everything. LOL what do you do on any flight over a couple hundred miles I'm sure you use an FMC or 2 its the same bells and whistles.

>I am interested for sure. Me too.

Stan

Very interested!Landing that thing could be a flightsim unto itself. Sure to be a great looking experience as well.

Hi Jason,For more reading about information here regarding the CS "Shuttle", search this forum for "shuttle", "Captain Sim". There has been a few discussion here on this, and this may give you some more input. If you have not purchased paywear from this developer before, I would search this forum for "CS 757 or Captain Sim 757" - as this has been the latest release from them and should give you a pretty good indication of background - and what you should expect in regards to performance, visual quality, customer service, release expectations, functionality, etc. I would really like to see Nick's Shuttle Challenge updated for FSX. It has some great adventures and senarios included - as well he did a great job with the flight dynamics and the landing gear strength. If you don't do it right - your in trouble ... His add-on is more about the whole experience, than just the visuals of the shuttle itself. It depend on what you are looking for.BTW, as a space buff myself I enjoy Orbiter - its pretty in depth and complex, but I have alot of fun with the NASSP Apollo missions. I have a blast with http://www.eaglelander.com/ - its a very cool lunar lander sim - compelte with voiceovers, missions, detailed functional panel (VC too), and good visuals.Regards'Garett

I'd only be interested if they include ALL phases of flight, that means a realistic launch sequence and if they manage to make it fly by computer in correct aspects of all phases. But they couldn't figure out how to create an actual operational JATO in the C-130. They just gave us effects. And untill they finish the upgrades to the products they have (C-130 mainly), I won't give them any of my money. Their customer support sucks.

Looks great......but. I have the CS757 upgrade to FSX and if you can live with 5FPS I say go for the shuttle. No problems with framerates with other aircraft in FSX. Just a warning. Craig
