I would have guessed you have 4 sticks of 8GB so taking one away would leave you with 24GB, not 16GB. Also, someone correct me if i'm wrong but taking 1 away from 4 would also make it single channel vs dual channel ram configuration. This could explain your stutters. Let me know if i'm assuming incorrectly on your ram stick sizes. That's what I thought as well. How did he get from 32 GB to 16 GB by removing 1 out of 4 sticks? And how fast is the RAM? CL and MHz? What are the rest of the system specs? Either way, the good thing is that RAM is dirt cheap right now. November 18, 20205 yr I’m not convinced yet. I am very happy with 16GB. I do not get stutters. I doubt I will see much if any tangible benefit by going to 32GB. Of course that might change later but not in the current sim. As for the OP than accidentally bumped a RAM stick loose and noticed degraded performance. This could far more likely be related to losing dual channel memory functionality and no doubt any XMP setting which would have slowed the RAM down considerably. It does change the equation if he's using mixed RAM modules. The amount of RAM isn't the only thing that matters. Single rank memory, dual rank memory, single channel, dual channel etc. And like RaptyrOne says, XMP settings. I'm going to remove one of my sticks of RAM right now to see if the XMP profile changes at all, My guess is no but I will see. *edit I went into the BIOS after I removed a stick of RAM and the XMP (D.O.C.P. AMD's XMP version) remained the same at 3600mhz. I figured this because removing RAM wouldnt reset your BIOS settings changing your XMP defaulting to off. November 18, 20205 yr Typically my game loads about 18 to 20 GB but can get higher. Overflying JFK in a King Air at 1440p Ultra ... I have actually seen it get up to maybe 28GB, never seen 32GB with 32Gb ram.

That is why I went 64GB because over the next few years I can't guarantee it won't go above 32GB used. $150 extra got me the golden ticket of not a possibility of running out of RAM. I didn't think much of it because I thought the sticks worked in pairs... but I did reseat all 4 sticks once I found the one that was visibly dislodged. My configuration is 4 x 8 GB, and my MB has 8 slots.

November 18, 20205 yr In most instances, RAM modules work in banks of two (this is called dual channel). On a motherboard the banks might be slots 1 and 3 for one bank and slots 2 and 4 for the other slot, or could be 1 and 2 for one bank and 3 and 4 for the other, you have to read your MB's documentation to find it. If you don't have a matched pair in the correct two slots, it may disable those two slots altogether, disable dual channel memory for those two slots or disable it for all four slots (again, read you MB docs).
