Henrik Nielsen's Global AI Ship Traffic for MSFS

Beautiful video. It does show some of the Asobo AI shortcomings though (disappearing, appearing, spinners, ect.).

As I stated on another site... I have selective vision with some of these popping and spinning issues... AI planes and ships have had some funny behaviors also in FSX and P3D. For me the most important in that video was to see AIG and GAIST working well together and with a nice setting in Rio. OliverQC just posted another one just focusing on the ships in the area:

Yes.  5%-10% is where you want it.

I know. But does this setting purely affect the number of Asobo ships or does it effect the number of GIAS ships as well? Why can't the slider be set to zero?

GIAS ships aren't injected like AIG's aircraft traffic, so you need the slider higher than zero to see them.

They said yes to it effecting GIAS.

So if I bump it up to say 50% will I get more GAIS ships?

yes, but you'll also get more Asobo ships. Henrik recommends setting the slider to 10 to prevent conflicts.

OK but what is the result of a conflict?

Just overlapping ships sailing into each other and such.

So how do I get 100% GAIS ships (the full lot) and no Asobo ships?

You could probably delete the boat traffic file in the traffic folder.

And then put the slider up to 100%?

I guess? I haven't done it myself so I don't know what would happen.

Anyways 10% is a good number already, a lot of GAIS boats spawn even at that low number.

What I mean is that if you set the slider at, say, 10% does that mean you will only see 10% of the GAIS ships? It would be nice to see all of the GAIS ships.

I lowered my ships to 10%  (didnt know that could be a factor)  and now no freeze with GAITS

Thanks The Moose and Henrik!

All Global AI Ship Traffic - GAIST - ships used to be visible with one setting for Ships & Ferries which was 5%. In the new package you will get some additional GAIST traffic if you turn up to 10%. Some intercontinental routes have been added in the newest version and they are programmed to appear with sliders at 10%. Moving the sliders beyond 10% will not affect GAIST - you will not get any more ships from GAIST going to e.g. 90 or 100%...

If you set Ships & Ferries slider to 10% you will get all traffic from GAIST, but you will avoid having Default traffic.

The Default traffic both conflicts with some of the routes in GAIST - especially some ferry routes - and the default also displays some funny behavior with ships in some really strange places or double ships as you turn up the traffic setting towards 100% - in the below images you see two examples of this. First double default ship along the East Coast of the US and below a fully loaded 400 metres long container ship in a quiet bay in Ireland... In both cases the ships pictured are the replacement for the default ships sold by Seafront, but the routes are the default which are also used by Seafront's Vessels Enhanced AI thus the problem will occur both with the default and with Vessels Enhanced AI if you turn up more than 10%.

Great to hear... and another argument for the above setting though it might not be the solution for all - this simulation beast is mighty complicated 😄
