November 20, 200619 yr Hey guys,Couple of questions about Ultimate Traffic in FSX. I'm keen to get my real world AI back up and running, in FS9 I used Traffic 2005 which was average at best. I'm thinking of Ultimate Traffic because the flight plans are real world. My quesiton is, is Ultimate Traffic flight plans de-compilable with Traffic Tools? And if so, will the flight plans decompile to one file flightplan file? Obviously I need to find a way to change all the new airport codes from FS9 to FSX...that will be a pain in the backside, but I figure that will be the best way to get real world traffic plans. From what I understand there are no plans to make a new FSX Ultimate Traffic..If anybody can help me out...please feel free :)Kael
November 21, 200619 yr Hi Kael,I'm using UT and haven't thought about decompiling it to make changes yet but it's a FS9 product and so is TrafficTools. I can't imagine it not decompiling into the normal airports, aircraft and flightplans txt files. You could update the airport designations and recompile; The FSX airports are relatively skimpy with parking so you might even want to consider spitting the traffic into smaller files that are more completely 'used'. I think there are utilities that can analyze the traffic and tell you how many AC are on the ground at airports but 'slimming down' the traffic plans for best results in FSX would probably be a long process. Or add the features needed by the FSX traffic compiler and rebuild it properly for FSX. Hmmmm, a project idea for some daring soul....Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
November 21, 200619 yr >From what I understand there are no plans to make a new FSX>Ultimate Traffic..Where did you hear that? Unless you read something I haven't, I think you might be mistaken about that. From what I understand from frequenting the forums, the only question regarding UT is whether or not it will be an upgrade, or an entirely new release.GG Avid flightsimmer with a solo pilot endorsement, halfway toward my Private Pilot in the Diamond DA20 C-1 Eclipse.
November 21, 200619 yr Well I hope they don't charge too much for the upgrade, because it only takes a couple of minutes to copy across the FS9 version of UT compiled products into FSX.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

I'm sure a read on the Ultimate Traffic forums that there where no plans for new UT at the moment (I hope I'm mistaken or misinformed).I guess at the end of the day, you've still got the problem of there not being enough parking spots at most airports, plus the fact that you can't assign parking spots to different aircraft in FSX yet (waiting for an Afcad type tool)...Kael
November 21, 200619 yr Author Kael,I've done just that... changed all the airports in UT according to Reggie Fields' list then recompiled within UT and moved the resulting traffic.bgl to FSX. It worked good, but I hardly made any tests because my disks crashed and I lost it all. :(I am sure it works because I changed VHHH to VHHX in FS9 to get the Kai Tak populated. Looks great, too. ;)Regards,Jure
November 21, 200619 yr Forget the commercial packages, they are all crap - the models that is. Go here: www.world-of-ai.com. Only the best, frame-rate friendly models, fully FSX compatible.

Only the best,>frame-rate friendly models, fully FSX compatible. >>Yeah, I agree the models are all crap. What I've always done is get the flightplans and then change the aircraft to FSP, AIA, CDAI and other better models. None of that is a problem because I think i've got pretty much every model and every repaint I need. The thing about the World of AI is that there really arn't that many packages. About 70 I think all up, but many of them are smaller airlines. For example there are NONE for Australia and few majors for Asia.....Cheers,Kael

Did you run into any other problems?Cheers mate,Kael
November 21, 200619 yr Author Kael,no problems, I just made a backup of my FS9 UT files before making any changes. I think that the /Data subfolder within UT was the only one I actually copied somewhere safe.Took me less than 1 hour to complete everything. I pruned Reggie's file to just show the old and the new airport codes, started UT interface and changed the appropriate codes. So, don't do that in Notepad, just use the UT interface. After you're done, copy the /Data folder somewhere safe and get back your FS9 /data folder - if you still use FS9.Jure
November 21, 200619 yr thanks mate,I don't currently own UT so I don't know what tools the program offers. I've currently got Traffic 2005 which i'm not going to re-install. I think I'll wait until there are decent airport updates for FSX before I try and get all the AI installed again, its no good having the AI if theres no where for them to land..Thanks for the tips tho..Kael
November 21, 200619 yr Hi Kael! This was my way:I copied the AI aircrafts from FS9 to the Simobjects/Airplanes folder in FSX.Then the aircraft.bgl to the scenery/world/scenery folder in FSX. I renamed it to TrafficAircraft.bgl. (I saved the original)Finally, I copied all the UT files from the main FS9 folder to the main FSX folder. In the (UT13+UT13_update) config files, I changed all paths to FSX instead. I did this, but I don't know if it's necessary. (It was easily done, however!).I haven't upgraded to FSX airports. So far, the (UT) AI aircrafts in FSX are there in those bigger or smaller airports I fly to in FSX and that's OK with me!Haraldh F.
November 22, 200619 yr >>You could update the airport designations and recompile; The>FSX airports are relatively skimpy with parking Yes they are. FSX's Narita airport in Tokyo doesn't have enough parking for the heavies, for example.>>Or add the features needed by the FSX traffic compiler and>rebuild it properly for FSX. Also the .bgl's need to be modified to take into account airports that might be new or unused (such as KCGX or VHHH).Also another issue I have discovered, is that FSX airports often don't have enough parking compared to real life. So that too is an issue. Not critical, though, because overflow aircraft are simply eliminated at compile-time. It's just a pain-in the ___ though, when you find your scheduled flight not being there in the sim.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
