I have a question and need help

Featured Replies

Ok, I've browsed a bit, and I don't see this posted anywhere nor am I sure where to post it.  Every flight I've had so far regardless of aircraft ends when my aircraft loses engine power at 29%. I am forced to land in a field or crash.  When I am able to land it, my engine will turn over when attempting to start, but will not start.  I'm hoping someone will tell me it's something simple like a flight plan issue or something of the nature.  Any help is appreciated whether its an answer or referral to the right location for this question.

May get a faster response here in the MSFS2020 forum!

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Are you running out of fuel?

What is "29%"? 😉

Yes, Fuel at 29%. Sorry.  It powers down and wont restart as if it's out of fuel, but why at 29%???

Which plane? Some planes require you to switch fuel tanks periodically. So you could have 29% in the left tank but have the right tank selected, which may have run dry.

It's happened with the Beechcraft Bonanza and the Cub Crafter X Cub.  This is with a fuel takeoff weight set to 50%.  Fly for about an hour or so and when fuel hits 29% the plane shuts down and I am forced to land.  The upon attempting to start the plane again, it turns in attempt to start, but never does start.  I've only ever flown long enough to have it happen three times and all three times when fuel hits 29% the engine shuts off.  It's frustrating.

BTW... the tank suggestion might be something to check on... Offhand... What's the command to switch tanks?

If it's the Xcub you have to scroll inside the cockpit and look up above your head and there is a fuel tube like indicator on the LEFT and RIGHT side, and a switch on the LEFT lower to switch the tanks manually! Someone should be able to post images for you. I think in the settings ( and you might not want too ), you can set Unlimited Fuel, but doubt you want to do this! I am not sure about the Bonanza, only flown it a few times!

Good luck, and if you need more help, please ask! Are you new to flight sims, or just MSFS 2020?

Only reason I know this is cause I created a Bush Trip, and ran out of fuel right at the end. Thus learning about this. I thought the tanks switched automatically, like I think the TBM 930 does ( not 100% sure about this ), but guess what, I was wrong 🙂

Have fun!

The real TBM does automatically balance the tanks, no idea if it is implemented in game.

Older aircraft like the C152 had a line connecting the two which would balance them in level flight but if you were in an uncoordinated turn or parked on a slope the opposite could happen and fuel would run from the "top" tank to the "bottom" one.  In game I believe the default C152 does not implement this but the C152X freeware realism mod actually does.

I'll have to check this out. Or someone will tell us I am sure!

Ok, Perfect!  This is great info.  Thank you so much.  I would just set the option to unlimited fuel, but I'm really not looking to run this in an arcade-like mode.  I want the realism, so If I need to switch tanks, I want to really do it... and hey... Good news... I know where I need to switch over.  Hahaha!  Thanks everyone.   Ok... now for the question about being new to flight sim... No I am not new to flight sim, but I haven't played in over a decade.  As the flight sims became more demanding, I didn't have a machine that could run them well and I put them aside.  So... when MSFS2020 came around, it looked so amazing, I decided to purchase a gaming laptop to be able to not only run MSFS2020, but run OBS Studio as well to record my flights for a YouTube channel.   I'm having a blast!!!  It's just this fuel thing that was causing a problem... Sounds like we have a solution.  I will give it a try tomorrow.  Thanks again everyone.   Matt

Congratulations on your new PC, and happy to see people like you returning to the hobby. As long as your having fun is all that matters!

Enjoy!
