ORBX REX WX is there an advantage?

Featured Replies

I searched but could find no entries about ORBX version of REX WX.

I am just wondering if anyone has tried the ORBX version, it is probably the same. But I was hoping the registration and updates would be easier using ORBX.

Reading the manual it looks, on the ORBX website, like you have to download and install the same way as if you buy it direct from REX. If so I see little advantage. But if ORBX handles the install, registration and updates through ORBX Central that would be a big plus.

Also what are your opinions on how the latest updates of FS2020 and REX are working.

Is REX worth it?

Thanks in advance to any info.

The most important thing currently in winter would be: is REX Weather Force capable of adding a layer of snow to the world where actually snow is reported? Live Weather is unable to do so, also somehow with Unreal Weather this seems not to work on my end. Simply ridiculous to fly around knowing that everything is covered in snow and MSFS shows a nice green summer landscape...

I compare to the main sim I still use, which is P3Dv5. And the absence of seasons was exactly the reason I never got XP or any TE product with just one season. Besides that, I hate childish "arguments" like: if this sim did not do it right, it is ok that MSFS does not do it right neither...

Fair enough but MSFS needs a bit of time to mature, just like every other sim released before it. We all know that MSFS has a long way to go yet.

This is Unreal Weather AdOn, it seems to be very good. You can add snow layer, as well. It is metar based, so it matches the online Vatsim-Ivao weather perfectly. It is free of charge. It has very small problems (while flying, auto transitions from each station is not perfect)  but subject to be improved. Must give a try. @AnkH @eaim

That's right.. And meanwhile while many people struggle and get frustrated with 2020.. I will wait as I continue to dabble in FSX, and then later finally download 2020 lol.

Thats probably the most stress free way of enjoying Msfs..... wait a year or so before it becomes our main sim.

I have actually found WX to be the best part of FS2020. And I pretty much love all of it, even with the problems we have seen.

I stopped using X-plane as soon as I got FS2020, I never really liked the clouds even with the addons.

My original question was if it makes sense to buy from ORBX instead of direct.

Well I can now answer that question.

In my opinion Yes it makes sense to buy through ORBX.

The install and registration is completely done by ORBX Central. One click and it is all configured ready to use, no serial# or login, it just uses your ORBX account and updates will be automatic as well. It just installs in the ORBX library of your choice. Very convenient.

As far as how well it works. Seems fine, I did notice some stutters as new WX loaded, just for about 5 seconds, this is only noticeable if you are on short final or maneuvering down low.

Both native WX and REX pretty much got the WX right in PWM-MHT-IZG (all K...). there were slight differences. REX did seem a bit more accurate.

I am looking forward to the historical WX and more presets. The search function is great. So I give it a 🤙.
