Owing to the pandemic I haven’t done much flying but the launch of FS2020 to huge acclaim hasn’t passed me by and I’m keen to get in on the action. I don’t have a powerful enough computer at the moment and so I’m considering getting either a gaming laptop or stand alone tower unit. I’ve glanced through these forums but I’ve been a bit alarmed to see that some people are experiencing problems running FS even though they seem to have all the required specs. My question is simple really; I’ve about £700-800 max to spend on a machine (laptop or PC) - what do I go for!? I’m looking for a nice and simple solution - just point me in the right direction (e.g. a UK website) - where I could get a good deal. I’d basically like to get it out the box and get going! Would this be sutiable: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-pcs/lenovo-series-3-gaming-pc-intel-core-i5-gtx-1660-512-gb-ssd-10207934-pdt.html Don't get anything less than a I7 8700k, gtx 1070ti 16 gb ram. I can run High with this setup but you will probably want to max things out at 1080p and then some and my setup allows for mostly high settings but no ultra without frame rate issues. For what you pay for a laptop, you get better value for your money with a desktop. And a high end laptop that is capable of running MSFS at high settings will cost that much more than the equivalent desktop. And for your budget range, you can afford the RTX 3060. The RTX 3050 is also coming out, which is even cheaper. And there is also a rumored version of the RTX 3060 coming out with more VRAM. Anyways, for your budget, the RTX 3060 or RTX 3050 is within your budget range, for the desktop versions. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM
January 3, 20215 yr @John Simpson rather than the Curry's PC, it would probably be worth speaking to a specialist gaming PC builder, tell them your intended use and let them recommend something. I haven't used chillblast personally, but they have a good reputation. AMD CPUs are giving a lot more bang for your buck at the moment, and I've no doubt there's some bargains to be had on some of the last generation stuff.

I've found some good deals but unfortunately I can't strentch to beyond a GTX 1660. Would it not work correctly with a 1660?

The 1660 super was my only Upgrade. So far. And MSFS runs perfectly fine here in mid to high settings. And that is on a more than 10 yrs old i5-2500 with 8gb ram... Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
January 4, 20215 yr The 1660 6GB is actually in the same ballpark (or even a touch faster) than the old standby 1060 6GB and is only a smidgeon slower (maybe 20%) than the RTX 2060 which also has 6GB vram. It is a good card for the price and only really lacks ray tracing and DLSS compared to the 2060. The reason the 2060 was twice the price was the RT/DLSS capability not the rendering performance. It will do the job providing you are confident you do not need DLSS or ray tracing in the near future.
