January 11, 20215 yr I have a Oculus Rift S. I've been trying for days. I can't switch FS2020 into VR mode (Ctrl + Tab). I think I've watched every video. Read numerous posts. And still all I see in the head set is the 2d cockpit display. I can't believe this is that difficult. I know I must of missed something. VR works fine outside of FS2020. So what have I missed? Thank You. Bill McCracken
January 11, 20215 yr Make sure you're opted into the Oculus home beta channel and follow this guide: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018555179 [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
January 11, 20215 yr Author Gridley, I have done all of that with no success. I noticed at the FS2020 forum many people are having the same problem. Do you have an Oculus Rift S? I don't know if the problem is with Microsoft or Oculus. I suspect it's Microsoft. My headset works fine outside of FS2020. If you or others have any ideas please pass them on. If I don't get the problem resolved soon. I send it back. I only purchased it for FS2020. Thanks for your suggestion. Bill McCracken
January 11, 20215 yr I do have a Rift S, Bill, and it's working pretty well in MSFS. When you open that key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1) in your registry, make sure the path to oculus_openxr_64.json is correct for your installation. C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json is the default, but I have my oculus software installed to a different drive. Also, you might open that path and make sure the file is actually there. [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)

Bill McCracken Sounds like your running in Theatre Mode in Steam, if so right-click the MSF2020 Game in Steam and go to Properties, then Untick "Use Desktop Game Theatre...." if it is ticked and try again. Are you using the MS version of MSFS or purchased via steam? Either way, you shouldn't need steamVR at all with an Oculus, just oculus home. January 12, 20215 yr Author PROGRESS!!!! Not running Steam version. HYkey was set correctly. I downloaded and reinstalled the Oculus app. Setup the Oculus home beta channel. It downloaded 10 updates. I'm sitting in the Cockpit of the Cessna 172. I can look around. Yoke and throttle and other switches work fine. Of course, still a problem. Increase the throttle and disengage the parking brake. RPM's going up and speed tape indicate my speed but I'm not going anywhere. Is there some thing I missed in setup? I'll keep trying now that I have made progress. Thanks to all who have responded. If anyone has any idea on how to solve my current problem. Please let me know. Bill McCracken

January 12, 20215 yr Author OK This is getting to be ridiculous. Since my last post. VR mode works sometime and not another. At this point I'm ready to send it back. What other programs do I need to run first before FS2020. Too many program options. OpenXR Developer Tools, Oculus, Oculus Tray Tool (This tool says that Windows Mixed Reality OpenXR Runtime is installed and active). As I said in the first post. I am new to VR. So with all the information I've read. I'm totally confused. My little brain is scrambled. With no little gray cells left. At this point any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Bill McCracken
January 12, 20215 yr With a Oculus headset don't use any WMR apps, only Oculus Home and Tray Tool. Sounds like you have to go into the registry now and set it back to oculus_openxr_64.json More here in the first 'Known Issues': https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/read-first-vr-known-issues-workarounds/337930
January 13, 20215 yr Author Gerwil, You are right. Sometimes you read too much and watch too many videos. Thus, causing confusion. Thanks. Bill McCracken
