Extreme METAR Change On Final

Featured Replies

So this crazy thing just happened to me....Right before I landed, MSFS picked up the latest METAR and the wind went from 80 knots to zero....what a crazy change. Glad I caught this on video 🙂

METAR: MWCB 131500Z 10080KT 9999 BKN016CB 28/24 Q1017

NEW METAR: MWCB 131600Z 12007KT 9999 VCSH BKN016CB 26/24 Q1017 RESHRA

This probably would not have happened if you hadn't paused the game. How long was the sim on pause before you continued?
This is just one reason why we need not only live weather, but also historical weather, so that when you unpause the game, time can continue as if you didn't pause instead of jumping to the present.

15 seconds....I went to hit record so I could show off the crazy headwind I was getting.

Not at all an expert in this field, but: According to what I know, MSFS doesn't read actual METARs but takes weather info from Meteoblue weather forecast. Or you used REX Weather Force (or a similar freeware program), then weather would be METAR-based indeed.

Kind regards, Michael

MSFS need a smooth transition for weather changes. Even in cruise i frequently have jumps in wind speed and direction or air pressure. Can't see the difficulty to implement a mechanism to smoothen those changes. I think even FSUIPC was able to do this in FSX.

I haven't experienced this yet, but I mostly fly low and slow, so it might be less noticable then. On the whole I am not dissatisfied with MSFS weather although there is still plenty to improve and fix.

And Active Sky does that as well.

You are mistaken about this.

In the last Q&A Video that I watched Sebastian Wloch said that METAR data currently comes into play when you near an Airport. But it only reads temperature, wind and pressure not the cloud cover, if I remember correctly.

Ah thanks, I missed that! Thus, they have to interpolate between Meteoblue and METAR at a point.

Kind regards, Michael

I mostly fly high and fast. I have often situations where wind shifts mostly in speed. Yesterday i had a jump from 109kts down to 70kts all of a sudden.
