Snow rendition seems much worse since last update

Recommended Posts

Is it just my impression, or does snow look worse since the last update? More procedural, algorithmic rather than natural and patchy like before. I do not like the way mountain peaks and trees look with the new snow, too even and smooth, lacking natural variation. I also do not see traces of snow on runways at low snow depths, like before.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Could this be because of the realtime life weather snow coverage algorithm now implemented?

Thanks!

I am seeing mixed results. I was in a small airport in Nepal and saw good fully snow covered airport and surroundings around the foothills of the Himalayas

Yesterday was in the northern most airport in Alaska and no snow on the ground.

But overall we have now the snow option covered with real weater, i find that pretty fine, shure sometimes it could be more

and i don`t realy know the algorithm how that works but has alot to do with Meteoblue

meteoblue maps (beta) - meteoblue

Now how good or bad this  working together with MSFS i realy don`t know, but we got it now with the Sim and thats OK for me.

Maybe it can be done more effective with the Sim if Asobo looks into that for a future Update.🤔

Just a thought..

cheers  😉

Don't worry if they fix it how "you" think it should be the next post will be " I don't like the snow", so no matter its always wrong. Also what update? when?

BTW No I think the snow is good and the transition from snow to warmer to no snow areas is great.

Snow on ground or low level terrain is still good, but on mountains it has changed. There also these regular patterns of evenly white trees among the boreal type trees that makes it look very unrealistic. Definitely a degradation in my view and it follows the pattern what we have seen with previous updates. They deteriorate graphical quality, probably for performance reasons but improve it again at a later stage. Perhaps this is simply part of the upgrade process.

In any case, snow rendition has clearly gotten worse in my view, especially in mountains, and I hope they will return to the original form. Perhaps some sun reflection in the snow surface would be great as well.

Seems the streets fill up too quickly where I would think they would be "plowed".  I'm sure they could filter out completely filling up roads using vector road data as a filter.

South Germany (close to black forest) here, this was yesterday:

zsGLaGT.jpg

well it does not look this way in the game, more like 2cm snowfall,

but do we need this exact realism in a flightsim?

No we don`t, IMO, i would not see the performance hit if we have it like that..🤔

By the way, allmost the same it looks here at my Home.

I am on the "Schwäbische Alb" i don`t know how to write that down in Englisch language so i wrote it in German but maybe some people around

In English: “Swabian Alps”

We had snow like that here in New York State the week before Christmas. About 60 cm (24 inches) at my house. It is mostly gone now.
