January 20, 20215 yr Hi Folks, I know we see these posts a lot, but things change fast around here. Considering todays date, what is the best new build you guys can think of for around $3k, just for the computer alone. No need for monitors et al. Should I go AMD or Intel ? It doesn't need to be exactly 3k, can go over a little bit. I'm just looking forward to finally switching to MSFS after being on FSX for years and years......and years. I built my last pc, but its been nearly 7 years since then. So, if anyone wants to chime in, can you please outline what i'll need for a great new rig to run MSFS on settings almost maxed out. Oh yeah, I'm also interested in getting into VR with this build, so I'm sure that will change things up a little bit. I know the 30xx video cards are hard to get a hold of right now. Any insight on when those will come online again? The research i've done says they should be available sometime soon? Thanks in advance, friends. I can't wait to start getting into this new sim. It looks gorgeous. Cheers, Blake
January 21, 20215 yr You are in an area with Microcenter stores. They have a build-your-own center with great advisors. Based on what you learn here they will help you assemble you choices and will build the system for you, with a guarantee. Have now done that twice with them and very well pleased. January 21, 20215 yr AMD 5600x is a great CPU - even those can be hard to find. If you go that route pair with x570 motherboard. Otherwise I know Intel has a new CPU on the horizon... I think its 11700k. I was actually browsing my microcenter here in MSP and the 5600x goes for 299. I think its normally 399. The intel CPU, the current one at least, will set you back about 400 ish. I also just put together a Newegg wishlist for about 3k. Like I said many of the parts aren't in stock. But it was Phanteks P500A case, 5600x, x570 gigabyte aorus ultra, Samsung 970 m.2 2TB, EVGA supernova G3 850w psu, Asus ROG RTX 3080, NZXT Krakken 280mm rad, gskill tridentZ 16x4 GB DDR4 3200. Doesn't include a new 2k or 4 monitor (or VR which I'd like to get - HP Reverb G2 is about the best). The freaking GPU is a third of the cost and you probably wouldn't need 64GB ram - 32 should be totally sufficient. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

As you can see, my PC is very close to what you are proposing with a 3070 rather than a 3080. January 25, 20215 yr Author Thank you guys for the insight. I think I’m going to have to wait for the GPU’s to become available because they’re still nowhere to be seen. Hoping that’s soon. I’m dying to finally get my hands on FS2020.
