Msfs2020 crashes at start up

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Just hoping somebody can help please.

From yesterday the sim has stsrtrd crashing when the blue bar reaches about 50-60%.

Everything stops and i go to the main screen...no messages.

After trying everything...removing all controller one by one , deleting all addons it crashed at same point.

Than I decided to do a fresh window 10 reinstall and fresh sim load with no addons...still the same.

Just now I removed all the controllers and the sim has loaded perfectly-but I have no controllers.

Has anybody experienced this.

Otherwise it seems my days with msfs2020 have suddenly come to an end.

Looking forward to all the help.

Hi.

I started having the same problem last Friday.

Maybe because I started flying to and from more demanding (bigger) airports.

Sometimes the sim would crash on approach and sometimes when starting a flight at one of those airports.

The blue bar would go almost all the way when loading a flight then I would get a CTD with no error message.

After spending the entire weekend trying different things I was able to "fix" it.

I don´t know if this will help you but it solved my problem.

I changed my virtual memory (paging file size) in Windows 10 to "custom size".

This is what I set it to: the amount of ram you have x 1024 x 1.5 for the lower value and the amount of ram you have x 1024 x 3 for the upper value.

In my case: 16 x 1024 x 1.5 = 24576 and 16 x 1024 x 3 = 49152.

I had read somewhere both values should be the same and that was what I had but since I made the change I haven't had a CTD and I am able to start my flights at any airport.

I don't know if this is what you should have set it to but I'm happy with the result.

Perhaps you can try.

What kind of system are you running?

Try downloading and installing new chipset drivers for your motherboard. Also try different USB ports for your controllers.

AMD Ryzen R9 9950X3D | Asus Astral RTX 5080 OC | 32 GB DDR5 6000 CL30 | 3440x1440 G-Sync | Logitech Pro Throttles Rudder Yoke Panels | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS | TrackIR 5 | Oculus Rift S

Just started today... never happened before... so odd.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

My problem is with the controllers connected the sim does not load at all.

I have tried different ports...I have USB hubs...I have removed these and plugged controllers directly.

I have tried plugging only 1 controller at a time.

I will try the system drivers update.

The only thing I did before this started happening was i delete my one drive.

I do not use onedrive...due to a silly issue ,I had to activate it...the crazy thing with onedrive is it copied all my files in the document folder.

Without thinking i deleted this file in one drive...this deleted the main document folder on the pc too.

I started having problems with many other things on the pc after this.

Hence the fresh windows  and sim reinstall.

Does mfsf 2020 store any crucial files in my document folder?

That kind of size is not needed.

Windows will show you what the suggested Pagefile size is for your system. Do not use Auto but set Min/Max to the suggested value and you are good to go.

No need for such high values and Min/Max should always be the same to avoid the continuous resizing of the Pagefile which might lead to CTDs.

Thank you for your input Gerard.

I had both values set to 16384 because I have 16 gigabytes of RAM and I was experiencing a lot of CTDs.

I agree the values I have now are high but the CTDs ended.

I noticed Windows recommends 2933 so I'll set that value for Min/Max now and try.

Doesn't work with this value.

MSFS2020 crashes while loading a flight like it did before.

same problem here from no where after a flight stars CTD trying to figure out what has changed

I had the same issue.  Just started all of a sudden.  MSFS would not load.  It would get to the loading screen and crash every time.  Something became corrupted.  I ended up reinstalling windows 10 and re-downloading/installing the game.  It's been fine since.
