January 31, 20215 yr Looking for data points on whether there's any gains to be had by overclocking this CPU? If yes, how much performance should I expect at 1440P? Any cooler you'd recommend? I would be looking at air coolers. Thanks 🙂 Edited January 31, 20215 yr by canadiantree MSFS. January 31, 20215 yr yes and no, it depends all core OC no you probaly loose performance, PBO yes and PBO + Fmax + curveoptimizer yes but time consuming lot depending of chip quality and cooling probly best perfomance with little work is PBO with slight undervolting of cpu, not sounds like OC but work with AMD, mems if you plan 32gb run 4x8gb its better then 2x8 or 2x16gb in raw mem performance , Intel is different best raw mem perf with 2x8 best of two world is if you have a ASUS Crosshair Dark and use ASUS DOS OC the MoBo cost very much for normal use not worth the money in my option 4K and 1440p is more depending of the GPU hope it help, i have just migrate to a AMD system from a Intel 9900k system  Edited January 31, 20215 yr by westman http://
January 31, 20215 yr After messing about with mine, best results have been just using PBO P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive. January 31, 20215 yr I just have pbo set to auto on my 5800x. Not sure it’s worth the 1-2fps different from 100-150mz all core oc vs just letting ryzen do it’s thing. It’s regularly hitting 4.85-4.9ghz on several cores on my system by itself. I can imagine the increase in thermals too. January 31, 20215 yr I just set PBO to auto as well on my 5800X. I found that worked best on my old 3800X as well. I could get 4.4 all core on the 3800X which gave better test results in things like Cinebench but in games results were more mixed. Fire and forget with PBO was just the simplest option and I didn't have to worry about any damage to the chip as it's running the way AMD intended it to. AMD deliver pretty topped out chips for the most part - there might be a few more % you can eke out of them but for me it's not worth the hassle.

February 3, 20215 yr The X570 Tomahawk is a great board for the price. Was very well reviewed by Gamers Nexus. Can get it for about £200.

I also moved from Intel to AMD back in December with 5800X and I can say that it is a great move. I change my RAM from 16Gb 3200 CL14 to 32Gb 3600 CL16 as well. Had to pay around with PBO and curve optimizer, it was definitely a learning curve since I was with Intel from the very first time I own a PC. About your mainboard. I was tempted to get X570 but decided to stettle on B550 from Asus (Strix B550-F WiFi). If AMD was going to stay with AM4 socket for another few years then I would have gone for X570 but it is the end of AM4. So, I thought get a decent enough mainboard and save some $ for the next AM5. Just my suggestion.

Just my suggestion. Only reason I have an x570 is due to my 450 crapping out in april of last year. Only thing available locally worth a word not allowed was an x570 so pulled the trigger instead of waiting on amazon etc.  Nick Silver http://www.youtube.com/user/socalf1fan Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 64gb ddr4 3200mhz ram, RTX 4080 Super, HP Reverb G2 v2, 4K Tv Monitor
February 3, 20215 yr I'm with TrentXWB. I got an MSI B550M Pro VDH Wifi. Was only £100, all the review sites said it was basically the B550 equivalent of the B450 Tomahawk. Been rock solid, and the onboard Wifi is excellent. Thanks for the recommendation. Does this board have a bios flashback option to work with a 5600X? I do not have an older Ryzen CPU on hand. MSFS. Yes, it has the flashback feature, but should have a BIOS which will at least post with it out of the box P3D v4.5 MSFS2020 Hisense 50" 4K TV Ryzen 9600x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz, Asrock B650m HDV/M.2 Gigabyte 16gb 9070XT, Thermalright Aqua Elite 240mm 2TB NVMe Boot/FS2020 Drive, 2TB NVMe P3D Drive. It should post ok as Charlatan said - mine posted fine until I tried to enable XMP to get my full RAM speed and then it wouldn't post after that. I ended up using a thumb drive to update the BIOS - takes less than 10mins to update.
February 20, 20215 yr Agree with TrentXWB. A budget B550 motherboard with a 5600x and 3600Mhz RAM are the best value points right now for MSFS. With the PCIe4.0 for the GPU and NVMe drive. I didn't go for a X570 a few months ago as i want to upgrade to the AM5 socket when it comes out later this year for a VR rig.
