Wow! Another see'er :-) Actually I just moved from Oak Hill, Va (Herndon) out to Frankfort, Illinois and while there is a bit of the Chicago "glow" since it is about 35 miles NE of here, it is mostly farmland so I can drive 5 minutes south and it is pitch black. The only problem is that we have coyotes running around out here and I don't wanna get eaten! LOLIn any account, when I was in the D.C. area, I'd drive out to Winchester or to the Blue Ridge Highway and found, Nirvana. Never tried Culpepper though.

Takes me an hour driving 16 miles to my work.I suppose I'm glad it isn't worse, but that's enough traffic for me to feel burdened by it.Plunk Microsoft, Google, and Boeing and the support companys behind those giants, amongst our lake filled topography, add the absense of light rail, the result is a pain in the butt.B

Ok lets see If posting detail settings and a few screen shots can help some other's.First thing I did was download the replacement AI from here http://www.world-of-ai.com/ this change alone makes a HUGE difference at busy airports, it also disables the default AI which means no GA planes ATM.Next I used the Matt FOX default autogen replacement fileThen added Added these lines to FSX.cfgTEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.20Here's my settings:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162986.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162987.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162988.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162989.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162990.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162991.jpgHEATHROW 33FPShttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162992.jpgKLAX 25FPShttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162993.jpgKSEA 25FPShttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162994.jpgSeattle with autogen at full right 25FPSHope other dualcore users try these settings and see what you get. Also found getting the latency of the ram down to 4 4 4 12 helped.E6600 @3.2Asus p5b deluxe2gigs of Corsair800mhz Dram running at 4 4 4 12 latency@ 2.1vGeforce 7900GTO overclocked by 10%Creative Audigy sound cardHope its ok to post all these images in this forum, sometimes they say more than wordsCheersJohn

Nice frames! Thats almost the same system i have on order now and the same tweaks i use minus that GA AI removal which i couldn't tolerate. I need my GA traffic ;) I'll be happy with 25fps at KSEA on the runway. Anything more than that will be icing.I would be all for a sim/astro event myself. I do quick grab and go's on my deck mostly these days with the occasional trip to a club 'dark' site when clear weather and the new moon happen to coincide. I used to be strictly an imager but sold most of my imaging gear due to frustrations of living in this area. I still have all of my scopes and a nice alt/az mount though with my nagler and pan collection.

>> Hope its ok to post all these images in this forum, sometimes they say more than words>>>> Cheers>> JohnEh, I'll allow it. It's more on topic than our astronomy discussions.Besides, this has become sort of a catch-all FSX performance thread, and I like it this way. It's a nice thought to have it all contained in one spot. With the reduced fiber time setting, have you noticed any issues with blurries? I set mine up some to try to take advantage of the E6600, but I do take a frame hit near the settings you are running. I haven't downloaded any adjusted autogen files yet though.I should give it another shot. I did have my proc running about as fast as you, but it was a touch hot so I backed it down to default for a while. I may give it another shot and try to be a bit more conservative this time, with my vanilla P5B.

By Crikey, I can set my FS and system up the same as your John and I get the same FPS in the same locations - there's one for the FSX consistency record books! Thanks for taking the time to post this.I'm not too excited about the water High 1.x setting, as it doesn't unleash that beautiful FSX water we all want to have, but at least it looks no worse than FS9 (which is my minimum requirement). Also, I find turning AA and AF on in game made neglible FPS reductions (10% or so), but makes it look heaps better.I still get blurries while flying along, even when the FPS was pegged at the frame rate limit of 33. I'm not sure whether this is related to the fibre fraction setting or if it is a quirk of the FSX beta 3 that I am running. Hopefully AVSIM will secure our FSX conference copies soon (delivered by Xmas would be nice!), so I can rule out the latter issue.Gary

BrianRegarding you CPU running hot, I was having the same problem with the stock cooler, after a little research I went and bought thisCooler http://www.tuniq.com.tw/Cooler%20Info/Tower-120.htm.1 Its MASSIVE2 it really works, hours of FSX action and the highest CPU temp I got was 50C3 Running the fan at 1500RPM its very quiet compared with the Stock HS and fan.As far as blurries no problems, the last screen shot was taken after flying from KSEA in a wide slow arc flying at around 220KTS, It was sharp and clear all the way.Gary TBO the last screenshot was a very nice surprise to me I was expecting a massive drop in frame going to MAX autogen. In respect to water settings, I actually prefer it at 1X( ( call me a luddite:)) 2X can look stunning in some cases but I find it can also look a bit too sharp and Edgy sometimes depending on light sources and altitude. With a fibre setting of .20 I find if the frame rate stays close to the capped limit blurries are not an issue for me.CheersJohn

I did mention that RAM settings were an easy way to pick up performanc, nice to see someone actually taking advantage of that.

Hello again John,Nice shots and even better frames :)What Corsair Memory are you using? I have the PC6400 2x 1GB CL4 or rather I did have until one of the DIMM's died on me, currently back at Dabs on an RMA awaiting warranty replacement :(I'll try your settings when I get the new machine back up and running!

JohnEGPF,You're running in 16bit color, something no one has done since the days of 3dfx Voodoo cards... run it in 32bit and see if the FPS changes, bet it does...

heh. I just noticed the list of the traffic cities.I think there is something wrong, when it lists Nashville and St. Louis at about the same level. I have been/lived both places and St. Louis has much much more traffic than Nashville.Nashville's belt highways are twisty and curve all around town, but the amount of traffic is nowhere near St. Louis's. I wonder how they compiled their information.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Tons of this screen shots have been posted showing FSX doing very well for some. I get around the same. Yet you will have a few posters still claiming FSX cant work on any system. I really think they have been shown it can so many times it just goes to prove its more about hating FSX and ACES then anything else.Very nice glad your having fun with FSX as many others are day by day.Bring on the patch. and Big single core cpus rule in FSX sorry its just that way.

FSX is now FS-ex for me. I have no feeling that it is even as good as FS9. After hours of tweaking, the scenery is poor, frame rates no more than 25 in large cities. Colours of terrain all wrong in many areas. It has been de-installed. I can see no immediate future for use of the sim. I especially hate how the scenery appears bit by bit as you fly you can see the buildings and trees pop up before your eyes. IMO needs a serious performance and scenery upgrade.FS9 plus addons now that is immersive! As for the much vaunted feeling of air mass in FsX imo its nothing special, I think that is just modified air or config files on the default planes so that they respond a little more sluggishly to input control. You can achieve the same effect in FS9 by modifying the aircraft config files. For example the PMDG 747 gives a great feeling of air mass and its Fs9.I don't believe that Fs9 is like flying on rails, if anything FsX seems easierI think we should encourage the add-on developers to continue Fs9 development. With current hardware we have the makings of a wonderful sim in Fs9 as its a great non-resource hogging base to work from. I cannot see FSX ever catching up to the beauty and performance of FS9+ addons. Its like a race between two athletes but one is carrying a 20 kg bag of cement!Don.
