Screenshot?

I never made any screen shots before, however I noticed I can move many of my FS2004 aircraft into FSX and simply copy a sound file and panel from FSX and they work. Except I get no aircraft picture on start up for these aircraft in the aircraft selection menu.I read that you can take a screen shot key "V" and make a jpeg file of the aircraft and put the thumnail into the texture folder in FSX but nothing seems to happen. If it taking a screenshot and saving it somewhere I can't find it.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,Bob

Hit the print screen button and paste onto windows paint, or I use a free and very nice picture viewer/edited www.irfanview.com it's awsome.

You will have to do more than just hit "V" to get the aircraft picture to show in the selection menu. The best way to go about it, is to take your screenshot image, resize it to 256x128 (other sizes reportedly work ok, but I like stock size pic), convert it to a jpg, and rename it thumnail.jpg, and then put that file in the aircraft's /texture directory.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Mace, I did resize to 256 X 128 and renamed thumbnail.jpg after I found my screenshots in My doc/my pictures with the aide of another kind post and put it into a texure folder in FSX, no picture shows up in aircraft menu ? Now what ?

You can't just rename it to thumbnail.jpg and expect it to work. The screenshot file you took? That is .bmp format. You must actually CONVERT the file from .bmp to .jpg. I use photoshop but *I think* Windows comes with Microsoft Photo Editor which can do the same. So does the freeware Ifranview, I think, but again I've never used that program.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

You can use the Windows Paint program to convert a .bmp to .jpg by opening the file and saving it as the other fromat. Also the thumbnail.jpg goes in the aircraft's texture folder not the FSX root directory texture folder.Mike.

Also, it goes into the "texture" directory (or directories) for that airplane - NOT the FSX Texture directory. Lots of downloaded planes actually have a picture included when they are unzipped, you can rename one of those to thumbnail.jpg (if they are already a jpg).

I took some shots for use with an F18 and they were bmps and worked just fine. I did convert them but only because it was 13 megs worth of files with them being bmps.

I even have some aircraft that came with a jpg, not 256 x 128 or even a multiple of it. The picture is not named thumbnail.jpg and it is not in the texture folder, but in that aircraft's root folder. And it still shows in the aircraft selection window. So, this function seems to be very tolerant.Best regards.Luis

hmm I wonder how a person would alias to a pic in the aircraft's root folder...possibly in the aircraft.cfg...will have to get out the Container SDK and see. They are probably using the ui_thumbnailfile= line in the aircraft.cfg file (or it might be ui_thumbnail=, don't remember exactly).Tim

Thanks very much, Tim, great to get the information direct from the source. In this case, it is not that at all. Instead, it seems to be that the image that shipped with the aircraft has the same name as both the title and sim names in the arcraft.cfg file (it is Lasse Lindh's Helicycle for FS 9.)title=Helicyclesim=helicyclemodel=panel=sound=texture=kb_checklists=kb_reference=prop_anim_ratio=-1.2atc_id_color=0xc6eff7ffatc_id=N3722Tui_manufacturer=Eagleui_type=Helicycleui_variation=The Hawaiianhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163865.jpgFor some reason, that image is displayed in the aircraft selection window. And that, without modifications to the cfg file (adding "ui_thumbnail=").http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163866.jpgI haven't tested this at all, so somebody else will have to confirm.Best regard and happy holidays.Luis

OK, looking for a file with the same name as the title= string with either a .JPG or .BMP extension in the same directory as the aircraft.cfg file is the first level fallback if there is no ui_thumbnailfile= line. Not sure where the thumbnail.jpg file in the texture.n directory comes in the search order, somebody else added that at the request of the art department after I had finished this dialog :->.Tim

Hi Tim,I have a request (I'll send it to [email protected], too):Could you set it so the ui_thumbnailfile variable can be read from the General section as well, so I only have to add the entry once? And make it so a local reference overrides the General section reference (it may already do that). Thanks!Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180
