My Aerosoft CRJ videos: Two tutorials and a review

Featured Replies

Hello everybody! As you may have gathered, Aerosoft kindly provided me with a pre-release build of the CRJ to allow me to have a play with it and produce some content. It’s now past 11am, so I’m in a position to share with you what I’ve spent the last week working on!

Firstly, I have a ‘first impressions’ review. It’s a new format, nothing like my scenery reviews, and I spend five minutes talking you through my experiences with the aircraft so far – what impressed me and what didn’t:

Secondly, I have a ‘Buy it and Fly it’ tutorial (yes, I came up with that all by myself!). Over the course of just over an hour, I take you through everything you need to do to fly the aircraft on a simple flight. It’s no substitute for the manual or The Dude’s excellent in-depth tutorials, but it should get you familiar with the basics and allow you to fly your first few flights with a minimum of fuss:

Thirdly (and this is what I worked on first, because the prospect of doing anything more complicated filled me with dread!), I have a very short tutorial on how to import SimBrief flight plans into the CRJ’s FMC:

Wow, that's a very good review.  Seems like you enjoy the CRJ very much.  In your review, there are a few minor issues, but based on your review, it's seems like a stellar product overall.

I'm used to the magenta Glide Slope indicator. In the CRJ is it the Snow Flake you follow?

Oh boy, isn't that NAV issue overshooting in the turns the same one in P3D version? 😅

Thanks for this, I thought I had read that simbrief importing would not work with the CRJ so great to see that it does!

The snowflake is part of the advisory VNAV system. It will appear passing top of descent, and will show the aircraft’s position in relation to the calculated descent path. Descents are normally done in vertical speed mode. The snowflake works like a glideslope, so if it is above center, your path is too steep, and you would need to reduce descent rate. If it is below center, your path is too shallow, and you would need to increase descent rate. Typically, a descent rate of 2000 FPM works well for a descent at 280 knots.

The ILS glideslope indicator is a green diamond that will appear when an ILS is tuned and received, and the nav mode is changed from FMS to NAV.
