Two copies of FSX increased my frame rates!!!

Featured Replies

Well, Christmas has come and gone (btw, merry Christmas everyone :)) and I got TWO copies of FSX Delux :):) :drool:Installed one, took about 30min to install, no problems activating. Now, I mentioned that two copies increased my fps. IT IS TRUE!!!! But only if at least one was given to you as a gift. Here is how it works:Return one copy and spend that money on more RAM.Simple and easy! Of course, this will only work if you are able to upgrade your RAM more.

????????

An admirable attempt at humor, but I recently doubled my RAM to 2Gb (3.4gHz Dell 8400) and the only difference I noted due to the increase in RAM is a significant decrease in "mode switching" - e.g. going from windowed to full-screen mode, and also in bringing up some of the dialogs that I use a lot (e.g. display and controller settings). I also went from a 128Mb ATI video card to a much more recent 512Mb NVidia card with higher core and memory clock speeds, and have not been overwhelmed with framerate improvements. This is why I say that what FS-X really needs is gobs more gHz on the CPU. The sim is hungry for raw CPU horsepower, and past a certain point you can throw as much $ and heatsinks as you want at it and it's not going to get stunningly better.I really hope someone can prove me wrong on this!Dave Blevins

>>This is why I say that what FS-X really needs is gobs more gHz>on the CPU. Not necessarily more ghz...more architectureI think we'll see faster cpu's that don't run at much higher clock speeds than we see right now.I can tell you that my sys (specs in sig) runs the sim pretty well if you ask me. And I have a $90 cpu. And I am fairly demanding with visuals and frames. The only places where it is drops are in the big cities when the weather is bad. When the weather is ok, even the big cities are decent enough to get a good experience.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

For those who are happy with FSX..why not a couple of screenshots form "you' and maybe a video?I have to see it!Mike

I don't know how to make a video. As far as screenies go I have posted a few in the screenshot gallery in the past, which is where I would go if I were you. I have a few more that are pretty good I took back in October when the leaves were changing that turned out ok too.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Hi Mike,In a screenshot I can show you a FPS of 60-75. You are most welcome to fly to Detroit, Michigan to see a live video, in person!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Adding system memory (RAM) will not, in and of itself, increase the maximum attainable framerate. Everything will load faster and there may be some slight (but barely measureable) increase in the average framerate due to decreased load times. But, there will never be a change in the maximum attainable rate. This has been said many times here and it's worth repeating.Doug

While there may not be a measureable increase in attainable rate, would there at least be an end to the stuttering, jerkiness, hesitations and other demonstrations of poor performance over areas other than city scape, by going from 1G of RAM to 2G's?

I should have said "decrease stuttering" sry, I wasn't thinking. I know it will not have a substantial effect on FPS, but it will on stutters if you are getting them
