Well in the U.K. an unlimited 4/5G data plan is fairly cheap. I pay £30 a month. Fair use is something like 300GB a month, which you’re never gonna hit realistically.

dont say that too fast, it depends hwo much you fly, i often see around 50 gig used with just a few hours of flying..sooo

Where? I’ve never seen that used. That’s what I normally use per half month (if I am flying). Maybe photogrammetry using that?

Yeah, my game reports just over a 100G per month (250Mb fibre) .

Data charges are usually pretty astronomical over cellular though so something to bear in mind and whether there's a data cap.

There are several data ‘unlimited’ SIMs I’ve seen for a reasonable price, but it’s whether they has a fair usage policy I will have to look into.

I was reading EE (in the UK) are the best at providing the fastest speeds.

 

Very much finger in the air this, but I expect MSFS is likely to be played several hours each day.  Hopefully that will stay within a reasonable (200Gb ?) monthly limit.

jc - you need to check which providers provide the best speeds (and allowance) for your dad's address.

On each of their websites will be a "Coverage Checker" link. I'd carefully "audition" each one before committing.

Place the device on your windowsill. Sometimes gets 20-30 mbps faster..... As it is always better reception outside.

Depends on the weather and also the time of day too. Sometimes I get 40 sometimes 70 sometimes 100

Thank you both.  I’ve spoken with EE on three separate occasions now and each time I get a different answer:

• Sales chap #1:  "You can’t put an unlimited SIM into a 4G router" - "Maximum allowance would be 100GB per month."
• Sales chap #2:  "Of course you can put an unlimited SIM into a 4G router.  Fair usage policy is 1000GB per month."
• Sales chap #3:  "Of course you can put an unlimited SIM into a 4G router.  Fair usage policy is unlimited."

So all in all, I’m ignoring #1.  The other two were very encouraging.

i know this is an old thread but i have unlimited EE sim only in London that's so good I was able to cancel my home broadband for the last 4 years.

i hotspot 2 x 4G phones, 2 laptops and an iMac and an Android tablet. I can get speeds of over 100mb/s and can easily suck 200 GB in a 24 hour period with no caps and no throttling. 

I'm sure with 5G this will be even better.
