Here! Here! Please, please SP1 this. Multiplayer could be so cool (heck it IS cool when you get in) but it's just almost unuseable in its current lobby state.

Exactly why there should have been several releases instead of grouping everything into SP1. When content fixes are finished and tested, release them. If I read an earlier post correctly, the number of fixes is "triple diget" in number. Why does everything have to wait on the performance fix. We could be waiting for months. SD

It's a fair question. It's true that a smaller organization might be more nimble here. One issue we have to deal with is there are corporate policies for each and every release of bits that dictate a certain amount of time "thru the wickets". It's a non-trivial amount of time to do that, and it involves more than a few people to go thru this process. There are a couple other issues that bandwidth-limit our release cadence. Like our product size. Build time is non-trivial so there are limits to what we can do in terms of automation on the front end at checkin time, and some things are just visual and need an eyeball. Given that and our scope ( the entire planet ) that translates into a full test pass is weeks not days. We localize in 7 languages ( yes, the SP as well ) and have Loc teams in Dublin and Tokyo that I have weekly status calls with. The turnaround on Loc is not a single day per language. Multiply that number by 7. You start to get the idea, a release is not trivial for us.Because of that we try to amortize "release management" across as much work as possible. It's not a great answer, but it is what it is.Let's just wait until the 1st week of March before we start a panic on the release date. We have been dialoging on SP1 since Nov, and so far things are positive.Cool?

Thanks for the look behind the scenes Phil. It is still difficult for me to understand why it is better to hang on to fixes vs getting them out of your way and in our hands. Somewhat patiently waiting,SD

>Ozzie,>>I thought your apology was sincere at the other site, but I>can see it was not!>>JimThats where you perhaps do not see the entire picture - on the other site I made a specific comment that crossed the line - For That I sincerely apologised Privately and publiclyHere I have an opinion just the same as others have theirs - I will always try hard not to make a direct attack on another person just for the heck of it - I have not even attacked the ACES guys - they after all are just doing the Job that they are PAID to do - the product is not as was "marketed" and the various threads and blogs tend to confirm that as a fact

That response gives me a warm fuzzy. My own conclusions:The patch and localizations is(are?) in QA. Things look positive as of now- subject to change. It'll be released when it's ready, likely March.Aces is putting their money where their mouth is concerning community relations, for this I thank you.

I feel sorry for all thrid party developers trying to either create new products for FSX or patch/upgrade a FS9 product for a FSX. How many patches will their be for FSX? Will developers have to patch thier product everytime FSX is patched? How many time will the SDK change before thrid party developers can actully use it?What a mess :-lolLee

>Thanks for the look behind the scenes Phil. That's what Phil's post is about. That time and effort is lost for doing other fixes. So you have to strike a balance. They don't just hit compile and post the fix. They have to test it to see how it interacts with hundreds of thousands of lines of code (and hundreds of other fixes). Phil mentioned a test pass is on the order of weeks. So if you're constantly pushing fixes out, you're spending all your time pushing them out, not fixing.

"""Since almost every version of Fs has had a patch-I can't recall-did those patches also cause a mess?"""Answer No. Flight simulator has never had major issues like FSX. It's very sad to see Flight Simulator ship with the SDK for the first time, and the SDK is going to be patched several times as well. Sort defeats the purpose? What do thrid party developers do? Most are not creating anything for FSX. I fell sorry that developers are left in this mess.Lee

I, and others, have released something for FSX already, and have a couple of more things in the works. When Microsoft updated the SDK in Nov/Dec, I didn't have to go in and radically change my scenery. In fact in my case, I didn't have to do anything.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

It's still very sad to see the Flight Sim community split. Let's hope the upcoming SP1 will resolve this split or mess.Lee

It only went down as a Fiasco to those who choose to view many things in the world as such.Fs2000 was what brought me back to the FS series after not using it at all in the 1990's-not because I viewed fs95-98 series as a Fiasco but just didn't see that they met my simming needs at the time.I have a lot more things to get worked up in life about than a $50 piece of entertainment software-right now I am being asked to fly a dying child cancer patient from her hospital home so she can die with her family. That is a Fiasco.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg
