I agree. I’ve tried HDR but just can’t live with it. EA looks grim but the worst aspect is you can’t use Active Sky with it enabled.

AS with ASCA and volumetric clouds gives me exactly what I want.

Do these comments apply to both v4.5 and v5.1 or only the latter?

Both as far as HDR is concerned. EA was introduced with v5. These are personal opinions of course.

Basically do what you do. Though dropped asca and went back to rex sky force as I prefer the cloud structures. Though performance was better slightly with asca

I think Sky Force cloud structures could be used by ASCA in any case. I'm sure I set my P3D4 installation to work that way. Check the options in both. Once set up you don't need Sky Force running, so you have the best of both worlds.

I've not done that for my current P3D5 installation yet but probably will.

@Pete Dowson Well i actually don't run sky force anymore in V5 and noticed my clouds definitely changed.  I'm not sure what functionality I may be missing by not opening the program every time I run P3D?  Do you?  I don't use it as an engine.

None.  I think you choose the theme and tell it to install it, and in your P3D sessions ASCA picks those textures up in place of its own.  It's ASCA that then changes the clouds instead of REX. If that isn't so I've been operating under a delusion! 😉
