May 24, 20215 yr For me it’s performance that is the main factor. If you have a powerful pc and plenty of VRAM, FPS and smoothness are much improved. May 24, 20215 yr Is it possible to upgrade from v4.5 to v5.1 by overwriting the former, or is it required to purchase v5+ as a separate, additional platform?

My understanding is that : 1) You cannot upgrade from v4.5 to v5.1 by overwriting the former 2) You have to purchase v5+ as a separate, additional platform FS2024

Not to mention the increased stability. It should be noted that performance increase is observed by the majority of users. But not all. I'm in the minority that have not observed a performance gain. Regarding the stability, V4 is also very stable so it is not a differentiating factor. Edited May 24, 20215 yr by Simicro FS2024

They're completely independent--in fact I keep both versions on my sim machine because there are a few acft and sceneries that never made the trip to v5. You can cross-link many v4 sceneries into v5 by adding an xml file that points to/references the v4 scenery. May 24, 20215 yr Author I chose v4.5 because of many aircraft that weren't list to work in 5. Is it difficult to make an aircraft work in 5 if it's only proven to work in 4?

May 25, 20215 yr Only issue I have with v5.1 hf1 is the HDR mode on which looks garbage. even with envshade. EA either on or off I use HDR off and envshade disabled. much more realistic. cheers mike

EA looks grim but the worst aspect is you can’t use Active Sky with it enabled. AS with ASCA and volumetric clouds gives me exactly what I want. Ray (Cheshire, England).
