Water in an engine is never good.

Recommended Posts

I thought the Mercedes at 1:15 and the ambulance before had made it through the ford 😮

Not even Ferrari drivers are safe from this, as this guy here in Córdoba found out:

Ferrari se ahogó en el río San josé-

He had to ship the car back to Italy for repairs...

It just astonishes me how they assume that the right technique is to just plough through at high speed. Its like they think that if they do it quick the water won't notice and not flood the engine. 🤣

Slow and steady may have been more successful, no bow wave. 👍

That is what I've known since I first learned to drive! I noted that those who drove slowly nearly always made it all the way through successfully.

I would imagine that the towing companies had a banner week winching out those idiots who stupidly tried to "bull their way" through!

Here in the U.S. the police would have had both sides barricaded to prevent such lunacy.

I've seen this many times too since we get some pretty big thunderstorms and tropical events in Florida. I've never understood why people think they can master the deep pools but they head in and end up with serious damage.

I got stuck in N'Djamena Chad back in the early 90s after hitting a huge bird, and the US Embassy guys that came out the airport to support us were all driving Toyota Land Cruisers with snorkels that protruded a good half a foot over the top of the roof.

I asked what they were for, and the guy said "wait a couple weeks and you'll see for yourself."  As he told it, when the monsoons hit, "it's like God hit the flush handle"...the flood waters would come up and wash all the garbage, dead creatures, and sewage out of the streets and into Lake Chad.  I still cringe when I think of running the snorkel-equipped motor immersed in...ummmmmm..."water" up to the windows as they said happened at times.

😁 We crazy Brits regard this as normal. Ford's are common, both the car and the rivers that cross roads. Normally there's a pole that tells you the depth, so you can safely cross or decide against. Not sure if there was in the video above.

A popular comedian here in the States has an expression that fits this situation: "You can't fix stupid".   😂

Well, to be fair I did note that there was a sign that the water had pushed sideways stating that the crossing was closed, but no one could have seen the warning since it was facing upstream.

I also noticed quite a few people having a great time watching the cars attempting to make the crossing. In one brief instant I noted a little girl "applauding" someone who was successful.

Seems as though there are quite a few bridges that need to be built!

On the other hand, doing so would deprive the villagers such a wonderful chance to gather together and watch the excitement...

Yes, you would think they would have attempted to alert the drivers that the water was too deep. But no, stand there giggling and filming instead. I mean we can't miss an opportunity for clicks on YouTube now can we.

Do you really think that the driver who is so sure of themself that they entered enter the water at speed in the first place would have taken any notice? In all but one of the clips, the water is in fact only half way up the wheels and if driven through slowly, the crossing would have been uneventful.

Snorkels are pretty much standard in Australia/New Zealand if you live in an access road like that

Do you really think that my comment was anything more than tongue in cheek? 🙄
