Thanks for the review Chock.  Couldn't resist picking this up yesterday already as the model reminds me of a comic book I read growing up in Belgium.

https://www.amazon.com.au/Destination-New-York-Herge/dp/1405212438

This was done by the author who did the Tintin books and the model of the plane always stuck with me, originally published in 1936 so I can't help but wonder if this Caudron was the original inspiration for the then futuristic imagining of a super fast plane.

The model is nice indeed, a lot of fun to take off with, the engine sounds very very heavy, it has petrol was cheap back then coming through with every decibel.  I am however getting this weird static pop sound every few seconds while running the engine on the ground, not sure if this caused by looping of the engine sound as it certainly doesn't sound like it's looping but it's a bit distracting, I don't notice it once airborne though.  Curious if anyone else has this?

Another thing that I hope they will patch into it is some sounds for the doors and canopy opening including a change in volume when the engine is running.   Also be good if you could open the canopy only while in the air so you can pretend to lean out while landing.  I agree on the reflections on the nose, probably can be toned down a bit.

Value for money you can't go wrong though, if you love your vintage planes this is a worthwhile addition.

It does look very much like the same aeroplane in the comic book.

$10.37 until June 4th...That's 8.50 of that funny € money. Downloading now...oh, my poor bank account.

Thanks for the excellent review. A remark : ‘fantastic for 10 quids’ is a two-edge comment which worries me a little bit  😉... This quality/price ratio is over done.

Has this aircraft trims for longer flights ?

It only has pitch trim, based on that question I tried setting the autopilot =1 in its systems.cfg file but I can't get that to work for some reason, not sure why.  I can get the 152 AP to work by setting that to 1 and then use MSFS2020 mobile companion to take the 152 for long flights while hands off.  Wonder if it needs sumtin else for that to work here.

thank you Stefaan and as you are in comic books, here is another one 😇

Some of the aircraft have  "Autopilot Disabled" coding in Engines.cfg

I will check this later.

I found Autopilot Disabled=0 in Engines.cfg, & Autopilot=1 in Systems.cfg, however I couldn't get it to work via my Keyboard mappings.

I am checking the keyboard mappings as several things have changed after the main MSFS update last week.

I will test the Keyboard rudimentary  AP on an aircraft I know it worked on.

The keyboard AP tested ok on the Asobo C172 so it looks like something is missing in the Caudron as I can't get it to Hold Altitude & Hold Heading.

But why in Heavens do you want to paste a  fake A/P to an aircraft which has none in the first place   😄 ?

If the trim works well, you can keep your altitude all right within the power parameters. And anyway these aircraft were not meant for long hauls.

Yeah it still works on the 152, I tried a few other planes, not working on the tomahawk nor the A1R Ryan STA but it did work on the Flyingiron spitfire as well last time I tried.  When it comes to the intended use of AP in the vintage ones I'm less fuzzed and given they commonly have both rudder and pitch trim it's workable but the Caudron without rudder trim is a bit tougher there.  But this is the main reason I want a fake AP, not necessarily to fly hands off, I enjoy watching this one fly from the outside with my drone cam as it just looks great around its exhausts when flying into the sunset  and even more so that engine roar is so satisfying to hear.    As to whether AP in these planes is somehow real or not is not really how I see it in this particular scenario, you can't fly a drone or have an external view at all in reality either so an equal argument could be made about those features, I consider this fake AP to be part of that very feature set.  I can enjoy the visuals of the plane within it's environment without having to worry about flying it while I'm wanting to do so, and this ability is very much one of the things that makes these awesome looking and sounding vintage planes such a joy.  That's where this fake AP has its use, for me it's not to fly the plane but to watch the plane for a bit. 🙂

I understand that and we all have different ways to enjoy the sim ! I suppose I used the wrong smiley in my tongue-in-cheek post.

I meant the aircraft from the 20's to the 40's were very much a work in progress. Nowadays the aircraft are somewhat aseptized. They were then often tricky to fly because of their design and their poor or rather rudimentary instrumentation. A bit temperamental too.  That is what make them interesting to me.  Trimming is an art in itself , this is why I don't want an A/P if it is not an old Sperry 😉.
