Get the feeling your paying to much for FSX add-ons?

Featured Replies

I'm still buying addons for FS9, and with one exception have yet to buy a single payware addon for FSX, not even the nominally-priced upgrades of products I already have in the earlier sim. Frankly, the issue is not price, it's performance. Unless ACES can pull a veritable rabbit out of a hat, it's going to stay that way for me for at least a year. No point in buying anything remotely complex when the fps falls from unacceptable to, well, completely unacceptable! The worrying thing from the point of view of FSX developers is, I look forward to the inevitable hardware upgrade NOT to see FSX make a reasonable fps, but to make FS9 really fly...Not what payware developers may be wanting to hear, but at least they know I'm not price-sensitive. If I want it, I'll buy it, unless the cost:performance equation doesn't make sense. It is pointless making price-value judgements against the basic price of the sim. Indeed, in almost EVERY other industry, the nuts and bolts represent a decreasing percentage of overall cost as quality increases. The same nuts and bolts are used in a Ford as a Ferrari, but the few who have the Ferrari's dont begrudge paying more for the quality of the completed item. In the same way, FSX will one day prove to be a better basic platform for development of aftermarket products that exceed the qualities of anything that went before. Quality costs. It's an aphorism that was never more true than in todays' sophisticated software market.Allcott

No - I'm not paying too much - because I haven't bought an FSX addon yet. Oops - I did buy FSUIPC, but that a utility, not an addon.Mainly because we all know anything released in the first six months is going to have to be updated / redone.

If you want nice, fresh oats, be ready to pay the farmer a fair price. But, if you can settle for oats that've already been through the horse, they come a lot cheaper!" ;)

"Seems that some are trying the old method of seeing what the market will support."It's not an old method: it's one used by the vast majority of developers, manufactures etc world wide. It's also known as market forces. What method do you propose?
