Liveries causing CTD - how to pinpoint

Featured Replies

I think from my experience certain liveries (for certain aircraft) seem to cause instability and CTD.  Not sure what you guys think but how would you recommend troubleshooting this problem?  Through testing my system appears much more stable if I load zero liveries other than stock and of course its difficult to say when I CTD, that its the livery at fault.

Thoughts?

Ive definately had the feeling that several of my CTD were multiplayer related. Sometimes from the ingame multiplayer, sometimes from Vatsim. I dont have a clue how to problemsolve which one(s) are the culprit. It's not like I can remove them and try them one by one and get a CTD on demand. These types of CTD dont work like that. It's likely a constellation of issues that come together with liveries being one part of it. I just know that after I removed all my other liveries for my old girls, and put quite a few in for the DC6, my sim has been very stable. Maybe coinsidence. I have no idea.

thanks for reply, I'm unfortunately seeing quite common CTD at the minute.  This CTD phenomena seems to come and go on my system, I can go with weeks of stability then suddenly find I can't complete a flight.  Very frustrating trying to troubleshoot.

Use the addon linker, then you can trouble shoot by ensuring only the addons your checking are loaded into he community folder.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

I rely totally on the Linker. Each time I install an add-on, I flag it with a "Temporary" tag. If all is well after a few flights, I replace the "Temporary" tag with a proper one, eg. "Props_USA".

Absolutely.  However I restart MSFS before each flight and with the linker I load only that one livery I am flying for any particular flight.

I get this too and removed quite a few liveries as there is simply no way to monitor this.  I think I posted about this in the past also.  What I simply don't understand is, what could a simple livery paint do to crash the entire sim?  Seems very weird to me as sometimes the 'painter' can go in a fix it, what he fixes - nobody knows.

it is probably a case of bad mapping, if the map doesnt fit the object as prescribed, boom, crash.

so can easily happen after a little patch in the aircraft..this is just my idea of an explanation.

and if thats true, its up to asobo to fix it, a bad map should never cause a crash 1!   this i had happen quite  a few times with

fsx traffic.

there are these options of using generic models and liveries, i use those for now.

As @wim123 stated it could be a mapping issue. I had a problem a few months ago where whenever i flew close to LFRS i would get a ctd, it turned out in the end it was another small airport (or i put it down to this) close by. As it disappeared at around the time of the hotfixes, and also coincided with an update of  the suspect field.

All,

It was brought to our attention that there are 3rd party liveries for the MSFS DC6 that have the “isAirTraffic” option set to 1 at the aircraft.cfg

From the SDK document “If this is set to TRUE (1) then this variation is considered to be optimized for use as a parked plane, or as part of air traffic. If set to FALSE (0) then it won’t be used for these things.”

This setting must be set to 0 in the DC6 repaints otherwise it can cause CTD’s or massive FPS loss when such a model is spawn at the airport or in the air.

If you have any 3rd party liveries that has this setting to 1 on the aircraft.cfg then we recommend to change it to 0 and inform the painter to fix this.

Thank you.
