Constant High Altitude Haze

Featured Replies

Yesterday in this topic I write that I did not see visibility changes when changing the visibility sliders in AS.
And asked for others to test this.

No one reacted or seems to have tried it.

I can see the white haze band in the far distance. And clouds/sky color stay above the white haze band. It could be that HiFiSimtech has created this white haze as a transition between ground and air and they need this to blend in their weather instead of a big border line.

Also there is the too much haze in general the further you look.

My point is that if the visibility settings in AS do not work also the haze in the far distance might not work and therefore there is too much haze because of that.

So try if visibility changes work with AS and EA enabled and post your results here. I then will contact HiFiSimtech about all haze issues….

Another thing:

It is only my opionion or do the clouds raise during climb.

For example there is only a cloud layer at 5000' ft if you are climbing to FL10 or higher it seems that the cloud layer raises higher aswell. So on FL300 the clouds does not seem as low as they have to be on 5000 ft.

I hope you understand what I mean

GSalden - still testing. In that process I have checked and confirm that while the  volumetric fog setting is greyed out (selected) in the P3D Weather select GUI and cannot be changed so you have to alter config file. Where in the. P3D Config Volumetric Fog  = 1. Manually changing this to =0 does get rid of the thick horizon band of haze. It does not get rid of haze on the horizon completely but a clean distinct horizon line is now clearly visible.

My other settings:

AS for sliders for disable haze layer checked!

ENVSHADE atmospheric scattering set to low, HOrizon Haze to very low and vertical visibility normal. Volumetric Cloud is the LM default file.

Now I am not sure why if you shutdown P3D after using it with the change to the config it is resetting this switch to = 1 again. When you restart the sim again the P3D config file has been reset and Volumetric Fog is again set at  =1. I do not have this selected in the AS menu so I am not sure why this change will reset to the LM default at the close of the sim program. So at the moment I am checking and reseting the value in the P3D config file before starting the sim. I was a bit confused until I checked this as to why on one run the haze was gone then the next run it was back again! I checked and it is not ENVSHADE or AS resetting this switch so it happens when the main P3D program shuts down and the config file is written or stored.!

Two test screenshots. This is what I am now seeing with the settings above.

F200 KRND area standard fair weather set (No AS)

F200 KRND area - clear skies set as weather. There is still atmospheric haze but the white band is gone!

Note P3D is still resetting the config to Volumetric Fog=1 on close. So need to change this value before using the sim or before restart.

When using TrueSky EA the volumetric fog on is mandatory. There is no possibilty turning this off when EA is on (the config has no influence on this).

We will ask LM again to enhance the blending of Haze and Fog with clouds and Terrain to get rid of the harsh horizontal line you see. Also we will ask to make the haze appearance more configurable (via ASP3D for instance).

That is why I did not see a difference when setting it to 0.

Regarding EA overcast : we need it to be not entirely flat like we have it now. Sure in real life the one we see in v5 is also an OC but I like to see more smaller cauliflower bumps here and there.

Like this https://www.pixoto.com/images-photography/landscapes/cloud-formations/above-overcast-5089854956240896

Also we do not see real looking cauliflower cumulus /cumulomnibus clouds like this :

https://nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumulonimbus#/media/Bestand%3ACumulonimbus_Clouds.jpg

The current ones are more soft clouds.

And we need different cloud structures at the same cloud level.

Regarding the white haze band : the moment you turn off AS it is gone….

Yes....I know all of this.  But thanks Gerard for giving us input and feedback.

Yesterday there was the final tennis match in Wimbledon and the final match of the European Soccer Championship - so no wonder, that nobody tested 😀

This morning I have done testing different values in the VolumetricClouds cfg file.

And while I am able to get a more real look with 1/8 up to 5/8 cloud density, above this it results in being able to see a little grid.

AS has also improved their VolumetricClouds control which looks quiet good above an OC.

The issue with EA is that when using smaller cloudsize values in the VolumetricClouds.cfg file this results in grid showing.

Higher cloudsize values show larger clouds and less grid, but more softer clouds.

A few pictures, to be noted AS with METAR/SA is the same.

Gerard,

This is with FS Global

1) on the ground the same METAR/SA as it was with AS

https://www.dropbox.com/s/spw4dwh2pyoyu5y/fs global.jpg?dl=0

2) at 2000 same METAR/SA as it was with AS

In my opinion I would not go about what SctiveSky or FsGlobal representation is, we should start only with P3D engine. That's where the problem starts from and that should be addressed first.

If this is with EA enabled and AS running than something is wrong on my end.

I do not see visibility changing when lowering /raising the visibility sliders and applying it.

No P3D restart just applying.

Thanks for your testing

Maybe we should compare our settings?

If you have any questions on certain settings please ask.

I'll be home for a few days before I go back on the road on my pattern.

While on the road is impossible for me to check anything.

Thank you.
