I am genuinely happy for you! Would you like to try the route I failed on four occasions? I was flying the WT CJ4. If you manage to complete that without CTD I will take that as a hint from the gods that my time to end this hobby has come...

Have you tried completing a flight without any add-ons?   Establish stability with zero add-ons FIRST, and only then put in one (1) add-on at a time.

EDIT: To make each run as close as possible I ran the weather preset: Rain. (other than that I experimented with ATC / no ATC and flight manager / editing the flight myself in the aircraft).

I'll fly it tomorrrow with the FBW A320NX as that's my weapon of choice.

Sorry about that.. but your theory may be right for your set-up...  thats often the way of things at the moment.

nope. The sim works like word not allowede for me regardless of my previous ramblings.

I'm glad you've found a way out of the CTDs, I used to have them a bunch in SU3 or 4. It really sucks.

SU5 + HF1 + HF2 seems to work for me. *knock on wood*

Edit: I should have read the whole thread.. I hope you find a solution.

You've probably removed everything in the Community folder, but have you uninstalled things from the Marketplace as well? And deleted rolling cache?

Probably not going to make you feel better, but I just flew LIPY-LIMJ with real weather without issue to landing.  I used the WT CJ4 v0.12.6, and also had the FBW a320, WT G3000/G3000 road data, and WT GX addons active in my community folder.  It had been a while since I used the WT CJ mod, so I forgot it didn't use the MSFS flightplan, so I flew north for a while after takeoff while I tried to get LIMJ as a destination programmed into the FMS, but once I got the FMS and AP sorted, it flew fine.  I manually entered the ILS 28 into the FMS, which also captured well, then turned off the AP on final, and had an uneventful landing.  No CTD, not even a hesitation noted.

I don't think this is a sign for you to give anything up, as I've had a *lot* of things frustrate me in this sim, including a few CTD's.  Conversely, I think it is a sign to keep trying.  It does work, and it does work flying the a/c and routes you are trying.  Something is causing a conflict for you right now, and it could be the most innocuous of things.  Robert Young's amazing Turbo Bonanza mod apparently causes issues with the default floatplane landing gear.  No one expected that, they're completely unrelated, but it happens.  Whatever is causing your CTD's will be found, whether it's by you, or by Asobo, or by the developers of the mods you enjoy.  It'll happen.  Just be patient, try to keep up to date on new versions of whatever addons you use, and keep trying.

Not only have I removed said folder, the sim is now nuked. I might try again in a year or so, as it stands now it is utterly unusable.

Man that sucks.

What is your hardware and peripherals? Just in case someone stumbles upon this thread and actually knows what the answer could be.

I found this post on the MSFS facebook group:

(PC SIMMERS) I have noticed a number of members are having issues with SU5 CTD (crash to desktop) and other performance issues. I experienced a handful of random CTD, until I optimised my system for the new update. So here are some steps that you can take, to help eliminate any unwanted CTD and improved performance, which will ultimately lead to the best sim experience 😀
1) Under the Gaming tab in Windows settings, navigate to Captures. Turn off Background Recording
1.1) Then Navigate to the Game Mode tab. Set it to on.
2) Set graphics performance to High Performance. Open Windows settings and search for Graphics Settings > Under 'Choose an app to set preference' > select Microsoft Store App > In the dropdown below, find and select Microsoft Flight Simulator, then add > click options, then select High Performance, save your selection
3) Close any programs running in the background that you don't need. This can be done from the system tray. This INCLUDES performance screen overlays for FPS/CLOCK/Temp count.
4) In Task Manager set 'Flight Simulator' app priority to "High"
5) Ensure that your dynamic page file is set correctly. (Start Menu > Search > sysdm.cpl > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Paging > ☑ Automatically Manage Paging File Size for All Drives)
6) Nvidia Control Panel Settings > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > Flight Simulator > Set OpenGL rendering GPU set it to "your graphics card" > Set Power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance" > apply and save.
7) THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ONE - UPDATE YOUR MOTHERBOARD BIOS! Check your MB user manual for steps on how to do this. This step is always over-looked and rarely spoken about. Its very easy to do and will improve your entire experience. Over time, windows updates, hardware drivers and GPU drivers become incompatible/unstable with your BIOS and will lead to system instability and CTD.
8 ) Clear your "rolling cache" within Flight Simulator after every sim update!
9) Keep your community folder empty until 3rd party developers "catch up" and make their add-ons SU5 compatible.
10) Uninstall 3rd party add-ons from your content manager that you have purchased on the Flight Simulator Market Place. These add-ons will not show in your community folder. They are stored within an app-data folder which is hidden, so if you think your community folder is empty, its not. UNINSTALL THEM until they are confirmed to be SU5 compatible.
11) Only use liveries that have been updated and marked as SU5 compatible.
12) Turn off live air-traffic.
13) ThrustMaster TCA Side-Stick throttle ranges now have to be configured within the FBW A32NX aircraft on the EFP. You must use the DEV version to do this. Turn on the EFP > go to settings > throttle calibration.
14) Have a good weekend! Happy flying! 👍😀✈️

Thanks you for taking the time to post that tip but the sim is now removed, I have tried just about everything at this time short of sacrificing a lamb to BAAL. There’s my line in the sand… I think… 🤔

What a nice post! Super thankful for all the advice and pep-talk! This is avsim at its finest. However I've crossed the Rubicon, and the sim is gone. I've had maybe 15-20 flights end 5-10 NM from the arriving runway since SU5. At some point you have to concede defeat and move on.

Quite ordinary stuff. 3900x. 2080TI 32GB ram. Sim on M.2 SSD. Saitek Yoke and pedals with quadrant. Nothing fancy or exotic.

So being the masochist I obviously am, I felt I had to try a couple of more times. I am now officially back to 100% CTDs! Wohoo! Four tries going LIPY -> LIMJ ends in CTD about 10NM from RW28. What an absolute freaking joke this has become. You might, as Darth Vader, find my lack of faith disturbing but this is just ridiculous!

I forgot to ask, are you using default airfields or 3rd party?

No overheating (dust on the graphic card !) ?

No shaky connection of a controller/heaset ?
