August 15, 20214 yr On some threads I see users accusing MFS of being an arcade sim.... Well, arcade or not, truth is it is a 1st time modeller of some interesting features never before modelled on either it's predecessors or XP, or even some professional / cetified sims. Non ISA Pressure lapse rates is an example, but also for instance the modelling of reference Earth Ellipsoid and Geoid models ! (*) I found it while trying to run some experiments with the atmosphere when using "Live Weather". One of the screens available under "Dev Mode" displays a worth of important variables and, for instance, it gives us the ellipsoid and geoid reference height at some point. Not really arcadish AT ALL ! Just for the sake of curiosity, in case you don't have present the differences: https://www.esri.com/news/arcuser/0703/geoid1of3.html Of course the amount of upcoming or already available detailed add-ons, like the FBW A320, the upcoming Fénix, the already available and wonderful PMDG dc-6, the GA and G1000 mods, etc.... makes MFS, really not an Arcade sim at all, although the fact that it was ported to a game console might otherwise suggest ! I start to show my baldness ... since I've started to really take my hat off to ASOBO and the many talented developers bringing me a LOT of satisfaction every day with MFS ! (*) out of curiosity, DCS and IL2 have flat Earth models ! Even for the fastes jet fighters, not to talk about the problems it brings for scenery designers using rw data, or GPS and other types of avionics simulation. Yep, I know, since it was released in 2014 🙂 BTW, so does ELITE IFT 🙂 I have no information regarding Aerofly FS 2. Another feature that Aerowinx PSX includes, and I am not yet sure how it's being done in MFS, is the updatable Earth Magnetic Variation database. This was added recently and allows for users to periodically update the simulator MagVar database with data generated, for instance, from NOAA's WMM. In MS FS previous versions and in P3D, thanks to Hervé Sors we have that possibility too. I think MFS can get it's updates from Navigraph, but haven't found any statements on that. Jose- Navigraph has an installer that will uninstall the old AIRAC and install the new one- manually for now... C PS- WHAT!!! Are you trying to tell me the Earth ISN'T flat???? Heresy! 😉 Best- Carl Avari-Cooper

Apparently, the file format for the magnetic declination BGL in MSFS Is identical to FSX and P3D, and Hervé’s updates are compatible. It does require replacing the stock file in the “Official” folder, so a backup should be made of the original before replacing it. I assume this file would get reverted to the “stock” version anytime an MSFS update comes out. https://www.aero.sors.fr/documentation/MVReadme.pdf Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist. August 15, 20214 yr Author Brilliant Jim ! Thx ! It's been a long time since I last downloaded it from Hervé's site. Wasn't aware of this possibility - looks Great !
