Another CTD!

I believe it is more of a factor that as the MSFS landscape changes, that creates issues with the earlier or previous mods.  I am beginning to weed out my mods that are not updated and marked as SU5 friendly.

It's interesting you say that, because while I have not been having CTD issues, simply for reasons of installation hygiene I spent a good portion of today going through all of my freeware and other addons and either updating things that were now SU5 compatible, or ruthlessly deleting them.

Well, I am not ruthlessly or otherwise deleting any yet.  Yet!.  But with Addons Linker they are essentially out of pocket so to speak if not loaded.  I am shocked to right-click and select Properties for my MSFS addons root folder (unzipped addons) and witness the aggerate size.  140 GB!  And to add  to that, my MSFS downloads root folder (for the unzipped files) is over 80 GB.  So in total they combine for some 220 GB.  Good thing that SSD is a 1 TB variety!  I rarely load more than a small handful of the addons.  Just what I need for the current flight.

Just a heads up for anyone using Radeon cards, i updated to the latest drivers the other day, and within hours the sim would just lock (frozen) after around an hour into the flight. Did all the usual stuff to try and find the culprit (forgetting i had updated the drivers) and it still continued. I finally remembered the update, so rolld back to a proven version and all good since.

Loaded up this afternoon, default KJFK using the default Icon.  No other third party scenery around.  Sat through all the loading screens until I was sitting on the runway.  Released the parking brakes and advance the throttle, before anything can happen..."this program has..."

think the idea that every mod is loaded by default from your community folder is pretty much a recipe for disaster.

Conversely, Are you sure it is not Add-On Linker that is causing these problems? I have around 100 GB in my Community Folder and I do not use any such program. A rock solid sim and rather mundane PC specs as below.

Add-on Linker type programmes are not the golden key to a solid sim. Just maybe, the advice for those suffering CTD’s  should be to delete Add-On Linker programs.
