GRUMMAN GOOSE

Is there a freeware version for p3d v5.2? I have searched but have not found one. I do remember Ozx produced a Goose way back for FSX, but I have not been able to find it...help appreciated. Thanks.

Sherm

shermank it was about and has been hosted here and there around the web since OZX shutdown. The last place I saw a listing with a possible download for it was here: FSX Grumman Goose HD Redux v1.2 - MODEL - LockOnFiles. Some other forums may have an answer on if it is still available.

No idea if that is a viable link. It was the FSX HD model, I had it from FSX days but it works fine in P3DV5.2.

I followed the links to the DL and got a popup from Malwarebytes that the host site, crimeanairwars.com is not secure and could be a host for ransomeware...so it goes....thanks, anyway for the suggestion.

I found a Goose style aircraft at flightsim.com. It is the Grumman G44 Widgeon. I had not heard of it before....but it seems to do what I want.

I found it on the lockon files site, some time ago, and as an additional protection (besides running anitmalware) I have NoScript installed into the download browser to prevent scripts being run. You'd be surprised how many scripts are run in the background, especially news sites where there are tons of ads, anyway I use NoScript as an added protection.

Maybe the OZx Goose can be can be hosted in the AVSim library ?

Here's the thread that lead myself to downloading it, lots of good info in the thread.

https://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php/118774-FSX-Grumman-Goose-HD-Redux-V1-2-Revisited?

To date I've added 17 repaints, shockwave lighting, McCoy water effects, created additional immersive sounds, added the GPS2020 and RealTrim gauges, also tuned the aircraft.cfg in various areas and have structured the configuration so that it can be installed into an xml add-on location (i.e. outside the sim).

It's a great cross country plane with landing options being lakes, rivers as well as airports, great fun flying.

Further enhancement plans are hypoxia and trialing out an engine realsim mod I came across.

Cheers.

Nice shots there Rogen. I have not been that keen only collected aussie paints. The McCoy water effect is worth the effort (McCoy was surprised it worked in P3DV5).

As a matter of interest have you tamed its behaviour on the water with NVIDIA wave motion, I find it bobs about like a startled rabbit in any sort of sea state and have been meaning for ages to look at the contact points. It is a similar problem for all the flyingboats and amphibians so it is a slow grind working on them one by one have not got round to the Goose yet I have been more interested in its ugly big brother the HU-16 Albatross (The old Virtavia version ports across very well).

Care to share the config or contact point mods?

Sure, fyi though I am running the Goose in v4.5.

Let us know how it goes.

In 4.5 with the 3D water, float planes are all over the place depending on the swell, the Goose being no exception.

The McCoy effects do flow with the water though.

Here are the Grumman Goose (Geese?) that I have and where to get them:

I also have the original download file Goose_OZ_HD_v1.20.zip  from the OZ website, but I guess I can't really send this directly to anyone, right?

Well, hope this helps.

If your float plane is too jittery or bouncy in P3D, add the following to the Contact Points section of the aircraft.cfg file.

// Stabilizes aircraft or boat by reducing excessive skipping and bouncing in rough seas (water set to Ultra)

always_use_avg_surface=1

With the OZx website long gone perhaps you can upload the original package into the AVSim library?

Cheers

What I meant was, without the author's permission I doubt that I can upload it or otherwise distribute it. I don't believe just because their website is gone, that it's legal to distribute it. The only documentation in the zip file is a pdf document and it is silent on any distribution or license issues. The author of the pdf file is  their team member Pam Brooker.

Maybe an AVSIM moderator can comment on this. Uploading this without the author's permission might might also be against AVSIM policy.

Thanks.

Hello !

I found a civil version of the Grumann Goose, named Mallard (another duck...)

It is given to be compatible with P3D V4 & V5.

You can find it (freeware) at https://www.rikoooo.com/fr/downloads/viewdownload/99/816

Hope this helps.

Rogen - thanks for that information. I will try it.

I have noted that the:  use average surface switch=1 or ignore waves switch=1 , does stop the bouncing about but gives you a model that sits like a rock not moving at all on moving water. A t least you do not end up with the bucking bronco syndrome and loss of control in big waves. I have raised the issue of wave motion in the sim several times at LM but nothing back at all. The wave motion is exaggerated by a scalar (my estimate about 2.0) the problem being the wave motion is mathematically generated by a mathematical formula by NVIDIA not LM and overall it is ok but will not give still water or very small wave motion in light winds. It is obvious that no amphibian or flying boat can be safely or properly operated in large waves or very high winds (structural failure or loss of control of both). The sim given it is designed to cater for aquatic vehicles needs to address or fix this issue as well.

No probs 🙂

This has ended up a great thread, I learned about the dynamic flight mod, have read it's changes, further modded and applied it to my Goose and as well as tuning it to apply for the HP 600 HP version... best of both worlds.

Cheers
