I could be wrong about some of the specifics, but my understanding is that modifying encrypted aircraft requires creating the requisite .cfg files completely from scratch (either by copying/tweaking them from a similar airplane, or starting from scratch), since that information can't be extracted from the .fsarchive files.

Basically, all of those modifications are working by just temporarily overwriting the default MS files with something else, and the creators are working largely blind, since they're not able to see what the exact values in the .cfg files are, so it's a lot more trial and error than simply being able to see already in the fileswhen you go and tweak something.

I think that is correct, you need to reverse engineer them.

Doing it that way would also overcome any copyright issues  modifying the proprietary code.

The idle power cutoff problem:

If you use FSUIPC7 for your axes instead of the MSFS settings, you can simply avoid the idle power cutoff issue by opening the joystick calibration tab and set a higher value for the idle throttle than your joystick actually has:

For my honeycomb throttle the idle value is -16223. I set it to -15647 instead and that works. You might try different values to see at which value the throttle will

I have not flown the Ovation for 6 months or more, but, I updated it a few days and ago and was greeted with a flashing red warning on the panel in the upper left at startup.  Anyone know why and how to clear this warning?

Also, it is not clear at all to me how to use the mouse to move the mixture and propeller controls in MSFS.  The control is highlighted and a box pops up with an up/down arrow on the left, a question mark in the center and a box with LOCK on the right, and I can't adjust the control in or out. duh. Any help here is appreciated.

Maybe there are some new choices someplace to choose the mouse controls. The assigned hardware controls all work for gear, flaps, etc.
