September 19, 20214 yr FYI, Southwest uses tail stands with their 737s. Noticed most recently at KBWI. Best, Jim
September 19, 20214 yr I work on Dassault Falcon 900s which are definitely prone to this. The aircraft is naturally tail heavy in any case because of the 3rd center engine. With a normal balanced fuel load, it will not tip even with a full passenger load, but when the aircraft undergoes maintenance a tail stand is required. Specifically for a 72-month C check, because this requires that all fuel tanks have to be fully drained, and all interior interior furnishings are removed to inspect the internal structure of the airframe. Interior removal usually proceeds front to back, and when the (rather heavy) forward galley is removed with no fuel weight in the forward center tank, that is all it takes to make the aircraft tip. There have also been several incidents were Falcon 900s have tipped due to heavy snow accumulations on the horizontal stabilizer. If the aircraft is to be parked outside when heavy wet snow is forecast, it is necessary to attach a mooring cable to the nose gear, anchored to a ramp tie-down ring. September 19, 20214 yr Back in the sim world, this can be a problem for Fseconomy users...I'm often standing the DC-6 on it's tail when starting an FSE flight - the FSE client loads pax and cargo by dividing the total weight by the number of stations in the CFG file, combining that with running minimum fuel (to get more cargo in) and bump... ...
