glad I could help. Now one more step: run the free version of Macrium backup, now that your system is running fine!

Well it was actually the Microsoft tool which did the repair job, however I do wish to thank everyone for their suggestions (perhaps not those saying "buy it again on Steam!😄 ). None of the suggestions were incorrect, just wrong for me personally. Windows (and MSFS) being what they are means there's rarely "one fix for everybody" solution! And I am of course continuing to backup.🙂

Incidentally, the Media Creation tool also solved the problem with failed system updates on the other PC I mentioned earlier. It now is up to date and has started to prompt to prepare for Win11 which only this PC was previously doing. So I wholeheartedly suggest people run the tool if they have Windows issues. I've done similar repairs of previous versions of Windows, but the current name of "Windows Creation Tool" doesn't make it clear it's also a repair tool which can preserve your programs and settings. And being on the "Download Windows 10" page makes it even less clear. Even the description on that page just describes it as a Windows upgrade tool.🙄

MODS: Perhaps consider for Tips and Tricks? (perhaps with a few unnecessary posts deleted as appropriate).

Here's what you need to do: create a local account, sign out of your Microsoft account, sign in and immediately sign out of the newly created local area, then sign in to your account again.

Thanks, but this was solved 13 months ago, with a solution that works every time.

Hey Mike, I've had similar experiences traveling with flashlights and loose 18650 cells in my carry on bag too, and I've never had any issues either. I've always been careful to keep them in my carry on, as you mentioned it's not allowed to check them in. I've mostly been flying business class flights, so maybe that has something to do with it? Either way, I haven't had any problems and it's always been a convenient way to have my batteries with me. Thanks for sharing your experience!
