Stuck using an "easy Direct To" feature G1000 NXi v0.8

Featured Replies

I have the Nearest Airport box displayed on the PDF. I can step thru the list with the FMS knobs and highlight a given Airport identifier, but I haven't been able to select one from the list.  I was attracted by one of the statement that is is "easy to Fly Direct to an airport, waypoint, or navaid displayed in the "Nearest" List.  If I can't select one, how can I easily fly Direct?  One would think it should be either a press of the inner FMS knob or the ENT key, or maybe the Direct iey, but none of these works for me.

Suggestions, ideas, hint?

Regards,

Ray

Should be: Press/turn knob to highlight/select, DTO, ENT, ENT.

Edit: Just tried it... does not work (yet)

Thanks Bert. Exactly how do I Select the hightlighted airport? so I can then press DTO, ENT ENT.  That is where I am stuck.

Ray

I believe they are well aware... they are adding functionality one bit at a time..

One would think they should be aware, but, because they are touting how easy it is to do something that doesn’t work makes me wonder if they are aware.

Is there a "manual" for the WT G1000 NXi?

Garmin’s official manual. WT is using this as their design guide.  http://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-02178-00_B.pdf
WT has asked the community not to suggest features that are already available in the rw version.

Thanks much!
Not looking here for any additional features, there are plenty of features in the RW version to keep me busy. 😉

Hi Folks.

I know this is not the answer to your question regarding the NEAREST Airport form the window in the PFD, however and if you know this already then please accept my apologies, it works in the MFD by pressing the DIRECT TO and then selecting a destination in the usual way, the FMS inner and outer knobs, then ENT to Activate. I always thought that the NEAREST window was simply for lookup information. Frequencies, runway length etc. One could then use the DIRECT TO window to fly direct to a chosen destination.

Cheers...Ken.

Thanks Kenny.  I do know the Usual way of dialing up a Direct To by twisting and turning the FMS outer and inner knobs - but it would be nice to avoid stepping through the alphabet while bouncing around in rough weather.  I keyed in on the "easy selection of airports in the Nearest box".  Heck it might not even be on the PFD, it could possibly the Nearest on the MFD (where the page does not exist yet).

Ray

Hi Ray, I know what you are saying regarding trying to select the letters in flight. However, I still think that the NEAREST AIRPORT window is for information only. One still has to use the DIRECT TO popup in either the PFD or the MFD. I'm off for a read of the info!! LOL

Cheers...Kenny.

Bottom of page 34 in the Garmin manual says that we should get an information window when we press ENT after selecting the airport identifier. That function does not work as yet. No information window pops up.

In the MFD, turning the outer FMS knob brings up a selection window with various tabs along the bottom. Scrolling the outer knob highlights each tab in turn. There are a lot of options but the majority are all greyed out. Hopefully a work in progress from the WT group.

I think you can use the keyboard instead of turning the knobs with the NXi.

Hello Ixoye, I am still using the Marketplace G1000. I'll go and get the NXi and try it out. The keyboard keys would be a better option, even if a tad unrealistic.😀
