November 6, 20214 yr My Mother board only takes one M.2 NVMe drive. The old one was almost completely full, so I cloned it and replaced it with another much bigger one. So right now they both have identical files and data on them, and both are bootable of course. 1) I could reformat the old drive, put it in a small holder box with a USB out cord, and use it as an external drive. 2) Or I could just store it as is. In that way if a virus or hardware fault kills the newer larger drive someday, then I could pull out the old drive from safe storage and it would boot up and have all of today's apps and data on it, including today's version of MSFS, and no virus. November 6, 20214 yr If you can afford to keep it as a reserve with the disk cloned I would as it is the only real way of getting up and running quickly. I would put it in a usb box just for this. Every couple of weeks overwrite it with a new clone. That way if your main drive fails you can be up and running with a complete system in a few minutes Harry Woodrow

November 6, 20214 yr I, too, recommend a USB box. And always keep the backup drive(s) unplugged or powered down when not in use. It's not uncommon for virus/malware to infect every drive on the system, not just the drive containing the OS. November 6, 20214 yr Always keep the backup as an external drive that is only connected to the computer when necessary. Like W2DR said, a virus can infect any drive that is connected to the computer. November 7, 20214 yr you can also purchase a PCI-e addon card with 1 or more M2 slots. That way you can still use the old card internally.
