November 25, 20214 yr Greetings, I have a new custom PC with Ryzen AMD 3700X CPU and RTX 3090 24Ghz GPU, 1000 Watt PSU. Running P3Dv5.2, I operate with moderate settings, most below max. Most of my concern is with CPU temp in the 80-90C range. The guy who put this package together did so with MSFS in mind. Are these kind of temps normal?
November 25, 20214 yr What kind of CPU cooler? Is the PC overclocked, and if so, how much? The airflow characteristics of the case can make a world of difference. Is the PSU heat shielded from the CPU and GPU heat? The directions of airflow through any case are also very important. How was that set up during the system build out? How is the case set within your local environment in regard to airflow? My one year old system is in a different location under my desk than my previous system all because of differences in direction of airflow from the respective cases. You can see my system specs in my message footer. My CPU temp stays under 50°C and my GPU temp rests in the mid 70°C range. My Windows Power Plan is set to Maximum Performance. No CPU or GPU OC. IMHO, 80-90C running MSFS with a 360mm triple-rad water cooler on a CPU running at stock speeds is not normal, unless you're located in the Congo somewhere with ambient temps around 40C. November 25, 20214 yr Yea these temps aren't normal at all. Even my Laptop running MSFS doesn't get that hot.. It could be a couple things A. the pump isn't running at full speed or its curve is set incorrectly. B. The thermal paste application is bad and needs to be redone. Either way I'd talk to the person that built it. ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

In which case you are almost into throttling territory. What's your ambient temp, do you live in a very hot climate? If you aren't overclocking its way too high. Even if you are overclocking I wouldn't want to see it higher than 80C. What are you measuring the temp with. Try RealTemp or CoreTemp, or HW Monitor. Edited November 25, 20214 yr by martin-w
November 25, 20214 yr Author Many thanks for all the expert advice. I have a Lian Li Glass Case and live about 35 nm north of KSEA, not far from the Canadian border; so, not too worried about ambient temps, especially this time of the year. I can see the need to learn more about the cooling system and consider air flow.

Is it one of the Lancool glass cases, or the 011 dynamic? Check the fans are ramping up with load and see if temps improve if you remove a panel to feed more air to the rad
November 27, 20214 yr Author After reading several informative posts and watching several YouTube videos on this topic, I made some adjustments to the Windows 10 Control Panel - Power Options, selecting AMD Ryzen Balanced. After making this selection, CPU temps with P3Dv5.2 (A2A Bonanza) are 65-70C. This seems much more normal and well within the comfort zone, Yes? No? Thanks again for all the expert advice.

December 2, 20214 yr Before messing about with CPU voltage determine if some other causal factor is responsible. No sense in adding additional variables if something else is amiss. Fan curves. CPU cooler mounting. etc. Your case is a Lian Li glass case... so you may well have limited air intake, that is more likely the issue than needing to lower CPU voltage. Your AIO radiator may not be getting enough cool air. Which case do you have? Model? More info required. How is your AIO mounted? Where is the radiator positioned? Do the rad fans suck air into the rad from outside or is it being cooled by warmer air from inside the case? Are the vents in the case large enough to feed air to the rad?
